BCAC hires new communications director
Relationships key to building engagement
by RONDA PAYNE ABBOTSFORD –
Communications efforts will ramp up at the BC Agriculture Council in the coming months thanks to the hiring of Danielle Synotte to oversee communications and engagement. Synotte joined the BCAC in early June, armed with skills honed in both the public and private sectors. Drafting a communication plan is her first order of business. “We’ll be collecting data

from all of our member associations, our partners,

different people, businesses and organizations interact with BCAC and how the council can best provide the information they’re seeking. The new communication strategy – with three, six and 12-month outlooks – will be developed using that information. A draft plan should be ready by early July. Synotte’s to-do list also includes a new website and social media strategy, preparing for the annual Ag Days advocacy event with MLAs and government officials in Victoria this fall, and the annual BC Agriculture Gala that precedes the Pacific Agriculture Show each January.
While BCAC enjoys positive
results from its electronic communications, Synotte would like to see people engage more with the content of BCAC’s various emails and newsletters. Synotte’s official title is

Synotte moved to Abbotsford in 2005 and earned her Bachelor in Business Administration at the University of the Fraser Valley. She previously worked in Abbotsford’s development services and economic development departments. Synotte looks forward to applying her experience in economic development, communications and public relations to agriculture, learning more about the sector in the process. “What are the really
important issues that farmers face? There are so many,” she says.

Her steep learning curve has included looking at everything from the vast number of touch points BCAC has to learning about a cherry grower who flies his harvest out by helicopter. She looks forward to building and cultivating relationships with BC farmers, which she says are “crucial to this role.”
