Town Talk
Summer fete is on song
THE Avante Care and Support Home at Pilgrims View, Roberts Road, Snodland was blessed with beautiful weather for this year’s summer fete. Residents, family, friends and neighbours were entertained by Geoff Dukes singing old-time songs and Michael Seraphim with reggae music and dancing. The home’s administrator, Tracey Richards, said: "One of our resi- dents, who used to be a singer, en- joyed singing a duet with Michael and it was amazing seeing her come alive and relive something she has always been passionate about. "The local fire brigade attended
and children and parents were able to learn about what fire fighters do. "We raised £219 for the home

Store stalwart bows out to spend time at her leisure
AFTER 49 years behind the coun- ters of shops in Snodland, Peggy Woodger is beginning her well- earned retirement. Peggy, of Meadow Close, Upper Halling is pictured being presented with retirement gifts by shopmanager Carol Evans and colleagues at the Co-op at 46-48 High Street. Peggy lives with her sister in the
family home she was brought up in and attended Halling Primary School and Holmesdale School, Snodland. She then worked in the large Co-op
at 11 High Street under its various guises – Key Market, Circle K, Ever- sheds, Cullens and Alldays. “I loved living locally with little trav-
elling to work and I enjoyed meeting people,” she said. “I could not be a person stuck in an office all day.” She will be doing plenty of garden- ing and has baby-sitting duties for her
niece’s twin boys. She also enjoys long walks. Peggy added: "I would like to thank
all the customers for their kind re- gards and well wishes. I will not miss work but I will miss my colleagues
and the customers very much." Carol Evans said: “Peggy has
served customers in Snodland for 49 years in various shops, eventually ending her career with the Co-op at 46-48 High Street. The Co-op and
Ayana’s chop for charity
A SEVEN-YEAR OLD girl has had her hair cut to raise money for the Little Princess Trust, the charity which uses real hair to make wigs to give to children who have lost their hair due to cancer. Ayana Allingham has raised more than £1,000 for the
charity. She was moving from Apple Close, Snodland, to Larkfield – where her parents Jenna and Nick have lived for 13 years – as Town Talk went to press. Ayana and sister Lyric (10) attend St Katherine's Primary School and she has a brother, Reid, who is four.
Her hair was cut at Links Hair Therapy, Swan Street,
West Malling and, before it happened, she said: “I saw a video of a little girl on YouTube at a hairdresser's do it. I

staff celebrated with a presentation and many customers gave cards and flowers. “We wish her a long and happy re- quirement. She will be sorely missed.”
All change
WORK has started on converting the derelict Bull public house in Holborough Road, Snodland, into a Co-op store. The Co-op acquired a 20-year
lease on the property three years ago and originally planned to close the shop at 46 High Street and transfer the business with the post office to the new site and retain their store at 11 High Street. As reported in the August issue of
Downs Mail, a fresh planning appli- cation has been approved by Ton- bridge and Malling Borough Council and this will mean the store at 11 High Street will also close.
