It all started back in 1977 when Alan Cousins turned his back on a horseracing career as a flat jockey to help his mother in their family business. Later, Alan, his wife Anne and their two children travelled south bound from Yorkshire to try and make a new life for themselves and got stuck into a new world of retail. Anne had been to college and studied art and textiles, which proved to be a great help however it was a huge learning curve for them both.
In the early days, Alan would go off to small exhibitions to look for ideas for their shop and realised that the market that they really had a passion for, was quality. They were drawn only to the best products, nothing else would do. The leather goods, accessories and eventually ladies’ footwear all
! complemented their growing passion for ladies’ fashion.
The move to Montpellier Walk was a key move for them and it gave them the chance to be more creative. They had set up an exhibition unit that pretty much travelled the whole of the country, trading in chic, classic, tweed clothing designed and made exclusively for the Cousins brand. This was hugely successful for more than 30 years and though was a seasonal operation it worked very well for them and they sold that side of the business a few years ago.
However, their priority has always been the store in Cheltenham. They have a mailing list and customer following that is second to none and they have achieved tremendous respect over the years.
Alan and Anne travel far and wide searching for the best quality and style while being at the right price for their customers. Their loyal and wonderful team of staff all share the same passion for the privileged job that they do and without question, they have had a wonderful life from Cousins of Cheltenham Fashions.
Alan and Anne would like to offer a big thank you to all of their customers and supporters. It has been an amazing 40 year journey for them and they hope that one day someone as passionate about ladies’ fashion will continue to grow the business from strength to strength – but for now, it’s business as usual.
