COMMENTS TO THE INSTITUTE OF REFRACTORIES ENGINEERS DRAFT ACCOUNTS

• Advertising income, both Journal and e Directory reduced since 2015. Strong likelihood that this may continue into 2017. • As the branch network struggles to survive, the monies raised from social fund raising has fallen and should not be expected to increase in the foreseeable future. In general, the branch network and its future needs to be discussed by Council.

• The Journal expenses have reduced significantly due to many tasks having to be taken in house. Time constraints on those that have worked on the journal mean that this situation is not sustainable and outside assistance will be required.

• Marketing costs increased in 2016 due to an attempt to raise the profile of the IRE at several conferences not least the annual conference and training day which was very well attended. Membership is now steadily increasing; this strategy will be reviewed and discussed for 2017.

• Net surplus for 2016 in a very difficult climate, showed a slight increase on 2015. P Bottomley. Chairman of the Executive Committee.
