Silliman “Celebrating God’s faithfulness”
“Sandurot” is the enchanting face of the new kind of “daguit.” Today, visitors from other places come to Dumaguete, and they keep coming back. Some come back to relish the charm of this place, others to pursue a dream, or even to fall in love. So many have stayed and have made Dumaguete their new home. They have been “taken,” or to call it in Binisaya, “na-daguit.”
The word “daguit” has thus come full-circle, linking the past and the present, bearing transformation from being one thing to another. This time, as the last bell tower stands witness, it is Dumaguete which has assumed the role of abductor—but of people’s hearts.
The history of Dumaguete is the basis of the Sandurot Festival. “Sandurot” in Binisaya means “to come together” with other people, usually in friendship, harmony, and peace.
