(June 6, 2017, Manila Bulletin). Yep, it was final that time; but wait, we are dealing with sports bureaucracy here in the Philippines. The story read that Mary Joy Tabal was excluded from participating in the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) had determined she could not compete in the women’s marathon at the SEA Games. For various reasons, of which I wrote in this column earlier, Mary Joy was told she would not be part of the team. As she said, she had done nothing wrong.

In turn, Uber drivers can also decline passengers with low star rating. It’s a fairly democratic way to ensure that everyone involved in the transaction behaves themselves. What sealed the deal for me wasn’t just the cashless transaction -- the cost of the ride is automatically taken out of your credit card at

the end of the trip so no money actually changes hands, unless you want to tip the driver -- it was the ability to send the status of a trip to someone who can track the route you take as you’re taking it. Uber utilizes the GPS in

42.195 kilometers in an amazing two hours and 48 minutes.
You can imagine she was covering one kilometer (like the distance from Freedom Park up to NOPH) in every three minutes-58 seconds. Mary Joy finished almost seven minutes ahead of the silver medalist from Vietnam. Placing 3rd was Thailand. So now it’s truly final: Tabal is the marathon champion in South East Asia! Congratulations, Mary Joy Tabal! You make us proud.

stressed. The Task Force will
continue to collect samples for three consecutive weeks that would show a negative result in the presence of Red Tide, before the area can be declared safe and the alert level lifted, Pialogo said. The Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources has the sole authority to declare the area negative and safe of Red Tide, Pialogo added. In early August, the BFAR issued a notice of Red Tide occurrence in the bay, after high level of concentrations of toxins such as phosphate and nitrate were observed that had caused the algal bloom, according to Pialogo. While Red Tide is a
common occurrence, high density of dino flagellates or the organisms that cause the algal bloom make it harmful for humans to consume shellfish collected from a particular area, the PAO official said.
