Breakfast with Ed James

She’s one of our generation’s biggest and most successful divas, and this month she arrives in the West Midlands with presumably an array of the best evening dresses and undoubtedly the best wind machine money can buy.

Yes, I’m talking about international superstar, Celine Dion, who brings her string of hits to the Barclaycard Arena on the 3rd August.

Celine is perhaps most famous for the iconic soundtrack to the film Titanic, where she belts out the note-perfect song “My Heart Will Go On”. This got me thinking of my all-time favourite movie soundtracks…

First up, is a song I played this morning on Heart; Footloose by Kenny Loggins. Even in the studio, Gemma and I can’t help but dance to this one – it’s the perfect feel good song to pick you up on a Monday morning!

Who can forget the incredible, ‘The Power of Love’ by Huey Lewis & The News during the iconic film of the 80s, Back to the Future. As a kid, I was obsessed with this film, and the moment when this song kicks in as Marty Mcfly fly’s around the town, is one of the best movie moments ever for me!

I asked my Heart Breakfast co-host Gemma what her favourite movie song was and she said; “Without a doubt, my favourite film of all time is Dirty Dancing. But the thing is, I can’t actually choose my favourite song from it! ‘The Time of My Life’ is a classic that everyone loves, but I might have to choose ‘She’s Like the Wind’ by the man himself Patrick Swayze”. I’ve got to admit, this is one of my guilty pleasures too.

There’s been some huge movie soundtracks in the past year too! The Bridget Jones trilogy has always had some incredible songs as part of its soundtracks over the years, and the third film, Bridget Jones’ Baby, didn’t disappoint either! Jess Glynne’s ‘Hold my Hand’ and Ellie Goulding’s ‘Still Falling for You’ all featured on the film and accompanied the story perfectly.

I can’t finish this month’s column without mentioning one of my favourite songs of last year; ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ by Justin Timberlake which featured on the soundtrack to family feel-good film ‘Trolls’. What an anthem that was!

Hear the new sound to Heart Breakfast with Ed and Gemma, weekdays from 6-10am. Tune in on Heart 100.7, DAB, at heart.co.uk or via Heart mobile app.
