// McLaren 570GT

MCLAREN BIRMINGHAM STRATFORD ROAD , HOCKLEY HEATH BIRMINGHAM, B94 5NH T: 01564 787180

THE DRIVE Having driven many sports cars, the one resounding difference with the 570GT, in addition to the easy drive, is that the cabin noise is reduced. Yes, you can still hear a thrilling amount of that M838TE 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 engine’s sound, but not enough to spoil the smooth ride the car delivers thanks to sound absorbing materials in the bulkhead and rear deck, adding yet again to its everyday driveability whilst retaining the thrill. Recalibrated steering, suspension and chassis tweaks all aimed at refinement deliver on point, but don’t get me wrong, this is still a McLaren in every sense of the word…it hits 204mph flat out and is very, very fast.

As a driver, I was very aware of the £154,000 price tag of this high performance luxury vehicle I was driving, but sweaty palms soon turned dry as the controls, which are consistent and easy to use, combined with the excellent driving position and light cabin put me, surprisingly, completely at ease.

LET’S GET TECHNICAL Normal, Sport and Track settings can be dialled up via the ‘Adaptive Dynamics Panel’ and activate different settings for both the chassis and powertrain. This is an exceptional cruise – not drive – it’s stable and strong in normal mode, then put it to the test on more twisty roads and select the Track setting and you’re thrilled by the first class steering and braking, delivering all the grip or control (whatever you want to call it) that you need. It goes for corners like that big cat after its prey, leaving

you a little in shock, but mainly thrilled thanks to the superb handling. 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds is something I can confirm!

The transition through gears is smoother than I have experienced on any vehicle; I still question how you can run through a gear change so quickly yet seamlessly, it’s a mechanical masterpiece. Fuel consumption was a pleasant surprise too, combined 26.6mpg and extra urban it delivers 38.4mpg.

Every time I ventured out in this car, I returned to an audience of people of all ages taking pictures both of and with the car, even a 911 Sports driver had a snap with it – a McLaren is to be his next purchase he confirmed as I teased him with the interior – and don’t ask what sound he made as the doors did their thing!

McLaren have managed to do something with this car that many thought couldn’t be done, they’ve taken their elite sporting pedigree, their reputation for speed and delivered a car that covers so many bases, yet manages to still look strikingly sexy whilst doing so.

Softer suspension, more kit, more storage, yet still an ultra-fast sports car – luxury really does mean not having to compromise….McLaren have mastered the road car as well as the track car…
