THE GEORGE BUCKLEY MEMORIAL WORKSHOP UPDATE
has been superb, a reflection of the affection and respect for the late George Buckley held by Rotarians in this District.
The response to the appeal for funding by clubs in District 1110 for this ‘Jaipur Limb’ workshop
the dramatic effect on lives the facility will have in this remote corner of Uganda, nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains close by the Congo border. Hundreds of lower-limb amputees in the region struggle to survive amid poverty in the challenging environment. The people of the Kasese region are subsistence farmers, poorer than the average Ugandan, and we know that many amputees cannot afford the minimal cost ($100/$150) of these limbs. The Kagando Hospital has committed to ‘not turn any amputee away for lack of money’ – and, in turn, the Rotary Jaipur Limb Trustees have committed to providing free materials for any patient in that category. Guaranteed access to the low-cost, strong and durable, ‘Jaipur’ limb will restore mobility and bring normality to such families.
