Spurs earn their environmental spurs...

Tottenham’s new education and environmental facility approved by Enfield Council

WIMBLEDON GRASS COURT SEMINAR

Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th August 2017

Tottenham Hotspur has had its application to build a new education and environmental facility, on a site adjacent to their Training Centre, approved by Enfield Council.

The THFC Environmental Centre and Nature Reserve will deliver a purpose-built education facility alongside a top-level multi-use sports pitch and a nature reserve with boardwalks, wildflower walks and meadow. This will create an environment where nature conservation, recreation and sport can be brought together to provide a high-quality, hands-on learning experience for Enfield children, alongside a world class multi-use sports field for schools and Club use.

Daniel Levy, Club Chairman, said: “The location of the Club’s Training Centre has provided us with an unrivalled and unique opportunity to deliver something truly outstanding for the young people of Enfield.

“Through our section 106 commitments in Enfield, our Training Centre has already been able to play an important role locally through the hosting of sport and educational projects alongside a comprehensive programme of outreach work. This facility represents a sustainable long-term investment into the next generation and will provide facilities for children to learn in a fun, high quality and natural environment that can remain part of the borough for years to come.”

The facility will be delivered in partnership with Capel Manor College.

The proposed THFC Environmental Centre and Nature Reserve will see the development of a high quality, multi-purpose, fully accessible and flexible education building including two classrooms, four changing rooms, staff facilities and outdoor teaching space.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon is delighted to announce the return of the Grass Court Seminar which will be led by Head Groundsman, Neil Stubley.

The two-day seminar, to be held on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th August, will feature some of the industry’s top speakers from The Queen’s Club, Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) and others.

The event is aimed at grounds professionals and officials responsible for the maintenance and management of grass tennis courts at clubs, parks and tournament locations.

All practical aspects of grass court preparation, maintenance and renovation will be covered including nutrition, grass seed mixtures, aeration/rolling and research, as well as demonstrations of autumn renovation.

The Seminar was first introduced 25 years ago by the All England Club and has subsequently become part of a structured approach to the development of tennis grounds professionals; a scheme established between the AELTC, LTA and the Institute of Groundsmanship (IoG).

The cost is £140 per person for the two days including lunch, tea and coffee and Seminar Dinner on Wednesday night.

A list of local hotels is available if required. Places are limited, so book now.

Council pop the Cork

Work is underway on a vast new riverside sports park in Cork, Ireland, which will surround the city’s regenerated Páirc Uí Chaoimh Gaelic games stadium.

Demolition has begun to clear space for phase one of Marina Park - a €20m development created around the stadium and the adjoining agricultural Munster Showgrounds. The phase one

masterplan published by the city council is focused on the area to the west of the stadium and near Cork’s famous Atlantic Pond.

Leisure amenities will include a tree nursery and play zone, a boat club, meandering pathways and a water course, plus a cultural pavilion and food and drinks space in one of the showground’s former cow sheds.
