Summer 2017 Executive Directors Message (continued)
To end my message this month, I would like to thank Chief Butch Arenal, Coconut Creek Police Department for his dedicated service as our President in 2016/2017. Your leadership in honoring our past and forging our future is to be commended. It resulted in increased membership, enhanced member resources, a renewed focused on preparing our future leaders, and video testimony of FPCA past presidents that will be treasured for years to come. Thank you Chief for a job well done!
As always, it is an honor to serve you. Regards,
Membership Campaign Recap When Chief Arenal was sworn in as our association’s president at the 2016 Summer Conference, he an- nounced his priority would be growing our membership. We set an ambitious goal: 180 new members before the 2017 Summer Conference. And as of today, we are officially at 979 members, with 190 new members.
To reach this goal, we implemented a number of strategies and tactics, including the development of new member benefits and the appointment of membership ambassadors in regions throughout the state. Our Ca- reer Center was launched to provide our members with resources specifically designed to help them prepare for career advancement; this resource bank may be the first of its kind and is certainly an example worthy of emulation. A slate of new awards was created specifical- ly to recognize outstanding leaders. And we challenged ourselves to re-evaluate how we talked about mem- bership and member values, which led to a complete overhaul of the New Member Session at our most re- cent Winter Conference in Orlando.
None of this would have been possible without the support, engagement and involvement of our members. Our member ambassadors competed fiercely to recruit new members and talked to every possible potential member about joining the association. Our board of directors provided oversight and encouragement, and our senior members provided their expertise on the new benefits.
Our membership ambassadors will be recognized at our summer conference, and we will announce the win- ner of the ambassador competition at our opening ceremony.
We are so grateful for everyone’s efforts over the past year as we honored our past while forging our future! ###
