Summer 2017
A Message from the President Chief Albert “Butch” Arenal Coconut Creek Police Department Members,
This is my last opportunity to address you in this forum – the second edition of our new digital magazine format - as your President. It is hard to believe this year is already coming to a close. It is important to me that each of you know that serving in my current role with the FPCA has been an absolute honor, privilege, and a highlight of my career.
I want to thank everyone who participated in our 2016-2017 initiative: Honoring Our Past, Forging Our Future. We have spent this year reinvesting in ourselves and our organization. We have some exciting updates to provide you at our Summer Conference, but I can safely say the effort was a smashing success - thanks to you. This association is truly one-of-a-kind in terms of the professionalism, representation and re- sources we make available to our members, as our growing numbers demonstrate.
When our board began our work together this year, we had high expectations for the year ahead. In my view, those expectations have all been exceeded. Time and again I’ve been proud, grateful and humbled to serve alongside the leaders and staff of this organization and to be counted among its ranks. And of course, you hear it often because it is so true – our FPCA staff, legal team, and communications firm at home base make this organization a leader in our nation. I am tremendously grateful to them for the amazing work they do to support us day in and day out.
As this year concludes, I ask you to please remember the following. Regardless of the challenges we face, serving as a law enforcement executive is one of the most noble professions in our country, and we hold the future of our profession in our hands. We are often faced with dynamic crises that would make a fortune 500 CEO cower. Stay together, remain unified, and take good care of each other. In the most difficult times, no one else will.
On behalf of our Executive Board and Staff, thank you all for a wonderful year, and for your courage, leader- ship, and fortitude in keeping the citizens of Florida safe every day. We look forward to seeing you in Doral!
