TAKE FIVE!
Jamie Lee Curtis once said, “Everything you want in the world is just right outside your comfort zone!” That seems like a succinct definition for Fringe Festivals. A little outside of traditional theatre, a little inside some of the best new theatre minds. A little decadent and a little sexy, a little serious and a little existential. A lot of everything imaginable and 100 percent uncensored.

Welcome back to the San Diego Fringe Festival! Now in its fifth year of celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Participation in the San Diego Fringe Festival is completely open and uncensored…and all the funds raised go back to the artists. San Diego local, Festival CoordinatorTodd Blakesley has the illustrious title of “Knowing All Things Fringe.” Blakesley has the right quirk and skill set for this job, he has worked in every vein of theatre from administrative to creative. When asked about his background, Blakesley says, “Let’s see, I started doing puppet shows in second grade, sketch comedy
by fifth grade and then at some point I joined the drama department. I have been performing outside of school since 1966 and I barely have a high school diploma. I love a process I call ‘total immersion theatre.’ I started using it at the Crystal Palace in the ‘70s and it blends ‘actor’ and ‘audience’ into the same dramatic and ethereal situation.” Blakesley, the Fringe board, its production
team and volunteers, have made tickets afford- able: $10 to free! In this way, audiences can see multiple shows each day, at venues all over the city. There are also outdoor performances by street theatre troops and buskers, with many stationed at Seaport Village.
