PLANNED PATHWAYS
ARE YOU USING I&TP’S CPD CODES YET?
You may notice that in the past few issues of Imaging & Therapy Practice, the CPD questions are followed by a numbered ‘Planned Pathways’ code and a QR code – a newly introduced online utility to streamline and enhance your CPD Now activities.
ABOUT PLANNED PATHWAYS Planned Pathways, named by Union Learning Rep Sophie Hollinshead from Hereford County Hospital, are template CPD plans, which can be imported into members’ CPD Now portfolios. Each plan contains a variety of tasks, such as discussing the
article with colleagues or finding out more about an aspect mentioned by the author. All plans have at least one evaluation and reflection activity, which will prompt users to record their learning as a piece of CPD in CPD Now. The Imaging & Therapy Practice editorial team believes that Planned Pathways will enable members to make much more use of the CPD tasks suggested by authors in their articles and, more importantly, help members to meet the HCPC standards for CPD and College of Radiographers’ accreditation.
HOW TO USE THE CODES You will see that at the bottom of each CPD panel there are two codes:
• If you are using a desktop computer enter the eight digit QA (quick add) code into the box on the right side of the CPD Now home page.
• For tablet or mobile phone, use the QR (quick response) code reader app to scan the code.
When prompted, log into CPD Now with your SoR username and password. The plan will appear on the screen. Scroll down and click or tap the ‘copy this plan and tasks’ button. The plan will

now be copied to your own CPD portfolio. (You can watch a video showing the QR code process

The CPD questions in Imaging and Therapy Practice are a great way to get started, and Planned Pathways are an evolution of these questions. They’re more interactive and collaborative. “You can complete them with your colleagues and you don’t need to stick to the suggested tasks. Plus, you can easily edit the plan to suit your own needs. They are there to give CPD Now users a simple and structured way to complete CPD quickly and effectively.”
PLANNED PATHWAYS: FAQS Why should I use Planned Pathways? • Planned Pathways are an excellent way to quickly create a CPD plan that will lead to at least one recorded CPD activity.
• They are fully editable – you can change the task order or even the whole task, to suit you and your CPD objectives.
• It’s more enjoyable doing CPD with your colleagues. Most of the Planned Pathways include at least one task that involves discussing or working with others to learn more about the subject in the article.
• The Planned Pathways will signpost users when to evaluate and reflect on what they’ve learnt and help to ensure that they meet the HCPC standards for CPD and College of Radiographers’ accreditation.
How do I edit the Planned Pathway? • Once you’ve copied it to your own CPD Now portfolio, just click or tap the edit icon next to the plan description or each task.
Will Planned Pathways help me meet the HCPC audit requirements? • Yes. Each Planned Pathway will direct you to create at least one CPD reflection. As long as you discuss how your learning has contributed to the quality of your practice and the service you deliver, and how it benefits the service user, the reflection can be used as audit evidence.
Who creates the Planned Pathways? • The current plans have been created by the Imaging and Therapy Practice editor and the SCoR Education and Accreditation Professional Officer, Louise Coleman. This will continue to be the case in future issues in 2016. However, some authors of the articles may wish to create their own Planned Pathways and the Education and Accreditation Officer is happy to advise on what to include.
We hope that you find Planned Pathways a beneficial and constructive tool – make it an essential component of your CPD.
