Nebraska Trucking Hosts 2nd Annual Safety Technology Summit & Exhibition

BY SHEILA O’CONNOR NTA Vice President

This year’s Summit and Exhibition, ‘Reducing Operating Costs through Mainte- nance and Safety,’ was a two-day event open to vendors, exhibitors, Safety Managers, Fleet Owners and Maintenance Managers and was held January 17-18, 2017 at Embassy Suites, LaVista.

“The Safety Management and Mainte- nance Committee wanted a focus on mainte- nance this year,” said Lucas Mowery, Safety

Director for Grand Island Express and SMC’s Chair. “We wanted to open up attendance to a wider audience and encouraged companies to bring as many team members as possible to one event to meet with as many vendors as possible.” Eighteen vendors exhibited and interacted with more than 100 attendees. Keynote speakers were Collin Mooney, Executive Director of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA,) reviewing CVSA and ‘Understanding the Roadside Inspection Program and the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria’, and Dave Mullin,

Attorney with Fraser and Stryker, PC LLO, covered ‘Protecting Trucking Companies from Litigation: Practical Tips for Handling Maintenance, Inspection and Records Man- agement Issues.’

Our gratitude to everyone who attended and the committee is already working on next year’s event. If you have ideas, sug- gestions or comments, please send them to soconnor@nebtrucking.com
