Nebraska Truck Driving Championships Installs New Chair BY NT STAFF

The Nebraska Truck Driving Champion- ships (NTDC) is pleased to announce David J. Dailey with Lyman Richey Corporation, Omaha as the new chairman. Daily accepted the position on January 13.

“I’m excited to serve as the chair of this long-standing event. This event brings the ‘best of the best’ drivers in Nebraska in for a weekend of friendly competition, fellowship and is very family friendly. As chairman, I’m pleased to announce that Make-A-Wish Ne- braska is our designated charity,’ said Dailey. Make-A-Wish Nebraska has a unique purpose; to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. ‘As a father whose children has been recipients of wishes granted,’ Daily continued, ‘ I am honored to partner with them for this year’s Truck Driv- ing Championships.’ Vice Chairperson is Michelle Drahota of

Schultz Transportation Services, Lincoln. The Nebraska Truck Driving Cham-

pionships, which will be held June 2-3 in Grand Island, is an annual event which offers Nebraska’s best professional truck drivers a chance to demonstrate knowledge, talent and skills in a competition highlighting what it takes to be a safe driver on today’s streets and highways. Ninety-eight drivers participated in last year’s championships in ten classes. Additional awards are presented based upon scores in the four separate test ar- eas: written examination, personal interview, pre-trip inspection and driving test. Team awards are also given to the company with three or more drivers competing with the highest overall score.

First place winners of the first nine classes may advance to the American Trucking Association’s (ATA) National Truck Driving Championships, while the mixer truck first place winner advances to the National Mixer Driver Championship.

Also held during the championships is the Nebraska State Patrol Inspector Champion- ships, which consists of a personal interview,

a HAZMAT table top exercise and various hands-on inspections. The winner represents Nebraska in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance North American Inspector Cham- pionships held in conjunction with ATA National Truck Driving Championships. The Nebraska Trucking Association’s Safety Management Council organizes the championships and recruits more than 100 volunteers to staff the event each year. The Nebraska Trucking Association is the pro- vider of effective information, services and advocacy to Nebraska trucking companies and affiliated businesses.
