It’s been a busy few months since the last

edition. The holidays and the election are behind us and I’m anxious what the next few months will

bring. I’m thankful that it’s been a fairly mild winter so far and there are only a couple more months of possible winter storms coming through. The Executive Board has met twice since our Fall Conference and ev- erything at the Association, we’re proud to say, is going well. Dick Reiser, Larry and Sheila are confident that there won’t be any surprises in store for us during this year’s state legislative session. I’ve got a report from our staff and Audit Committee that we have received a clean bill of health on our accounting practices and we have a respectable reserve in the event of a rainy day.

I was fortunate to have met our publisher of the Nebraska Trucker, Jennifer Matthews, from the Matthews Publishing Group (MPG) at the Fall Conference. I’m pleased to report that we are on schedule, as well as improving our readership AND advertisers. Without a doubt, printed publications have found some headwinds despite competition from 24- hour news sources and the internet; yet I do feel that printed media like ours is important to the majority of our members. A magazine allows us to get to know each other better and allows us to share our successes and even sorrows in a much more intimate way than an email, blog or website. While our Association is not ignoring these new technologies, I’m proud to say that we haven’t given up in continuing to keep our magazine fresh, affordable, accessible and relevant.

Many thanks to all our loyal readers that receive the magazine. support the companies that advertise to reach you and keep the presses rolling. Without all of you it wouldn’t be possible. While our printed magazine continues to thrive, it’s also important to remember that all mediums of communications are important to a healthy organization. It may be through an email or blog, but sometimes the old telephone is just as good, if not in some instances even better. There are very few of us that don’t have a cell phone that you can text, message or call from.
