Level Title and Product Code


The product code is used for registration and ordering record of assessment books/assessment records.

Rules of Combination Shows the number of mandatory and the minimum number of optional units required to complete the qualification


3 Units


Lists the mandatory units in each qualification. Where more than one qualification is shown on a page, the VTCT Product Code is used to indicate the qualification(s) the units apply to. If the term All is used, the unit is in every qualification on that page. Optional units for each qualification can be found on the VTCT website.

Assessment Method Indicates the type of assessment(s) applying to qualifications on that page.

Qualification Number The QN number is used for funding purposes.

Guided Learning Hours GLH


GLH is an estimate of the time allocated to teach, instruct, assess and support learners throughout a unit. Learner initiated private study, preparation and marking of formative assessment is not taken into account.

Total Qualifiation TIme The number of hours an awarding organisation has assigned to a qualification for Guided Learning and an estimate of the number of hours a learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation, study, or any other form of participation in education or training. This includes assessment, which takes place as directed - but, unlike Guided Learning, not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.

Guided Learning The activity of a learner in being taught or instructed by, or otherwise participating in education or training under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.


9 Credit Value


This is the number of credits awarded upon successful achievement of all unit outcomes. Credit is a numerical value that represents a means of recognising, measuring, valuing and comparing achievement.


10 Fee per Learner


This shows the registration fee for the qualification and the cost of buying a Record of Assessment / Assessment Record. Please note – it is not compulsory to purchase books to deliver qualifications. VTCT has a free e-portfolio system (Linx2Record) that supports delivery of most qualifications.


11 Minimum age entry


This shows the minimum age a learner can be registered on to a qualification. Where this is recorded as Pre-16, the minimum age is usually 14.

Performance Table Inclusion


This shows when and which years a qualification is included in School/College Performance Point Tables.

Certification End Date This is the latest date a certificate can be claimed by a centre. Please note – qualifications are sometimes extended for delivery and these dates change. VTCT will publicise changes as they occur.
