Wheelchair securement manufactur-
er Q’Straint/Sure-Lok launched its new online Training “Aqademy.” It includes on-demand training courses, free monthly webinars, an annual national training event, industry talks analyzing the latest trends, tutorials and down- loads, fleet evaluation, and helpful train- ing products available for purchase. “Our team of experienced transit, school bus, para-transit and mobil- ity experts are the unquestioned authority on all aspects of wheelchair passenger securement … and our goal has always been to pass that knowl- edge on to you,” said the company.
The new AHD Wide View school
bus video solution was
displayed at
Safety Vision’s booth. The wide-angle vid- eo solution covers a 148-degree viewing area and captures 1080p video, so fewer cameras are needed to cover the same space. The product features an integrated microphone, True Wide Dynamic Range, IR illuminators that can see up to 10 to 15 meters in the dark, and an anti-vibration design with lockable angle.
Safe Ride
News Publica- tions promoted the third edition of the School Bus Safety Handbook, which author and Safe Ride News Publisher Denise Donald-
son said was a significantly rewritten and upgraded version. The technical handbook provides detailed information on proper use of child safety restraint systems and wheel- chairs on school buses. “I’m very excited to get it done, as it should be a really useful re- source,” Donaldson commented last month.
Video surveillance and fleet
management system provider Seon conducted a training session on its new GPS-based Seon PATH route optimization system. It allows school bus operations to record their routes, view the completed routes on a computer, see details like the duration of stops, make changes easily using a drag-and- drop system, and print updated di- rections or student lists for drivers. Seon said the system, which is easy to learn and set up, helps streamline operations by identifying under-uti- lized stops.
Transfinder promoted its new
Wayfinder All-In-One In-Vehicle app. Driving routes with the app activated allows the route, stops and drive time to be recorded, after which changes and updates can easily be made. Transfinder also announced the
School bus manufacturer Thomas Built Buses an-
nounced that it now offers Meritor WABCO’s SmartTrac Electronic Stability Control on all Saf-T-Liner C2 diesel and CNG buses purchased after July 23. The company also cited the NTSB’s May 22 recommendations and stated that the ESC would help drivers maintain control in potentially disastrous situations. Thomas Built also debuted a new pedestrian detec-
tion system that couples ground lighting around the bus with both tablet- based and LED light warnings.
At its booth, Tyler Technologies
shared how it coordinated with con- tractor Cook-Illinois Corp. in Chicago to implement the Multi-District Model of its fleet management system Traversa. The new Traversa MDM gives contrac- tors a secure solution to better access, manage and share their data for greater efficiency. “It gives our staff the ability to have
their data in one place, while keeping customer data separate,” explained Clif Pierluissi, director of routing and ana- lytics for Cook-Illinois. “A corporation like ours needs this level of integrated software; we can’t have all of these separate, ‘island’ databases.”
Westmatic Corp. debuted its new “revo- lutionary, modular designed and infinitely customizable automatic” wash system, the Viking. The unit can be configured as a drive-through machine or as a rollover/ gantry. The “intelligent, incredibly durable” machine’s standard features include a hot- dipped galvanized framework, LCD touch- screen controls, maintenance- free straps, PLC controls, automatic vehicle sizing and a contouring system. It can be upgraded to include a pre-soak arch, high-speed rotating nozzles, chassis and wheel wash, dryers and detail wand. Westmatic noted that water recycling can also be added to any of its wash systems.
