NATM has recently developed two documents to assist its members. The first is a two page “Tandem Towing Fact Sheet” and the second is “A Guide to NHTSA Early Warning Reporting and Safety Recalls.” Trailer manufacturers are encouraged to download, print and share the “Tandem Towing Fact Sheet” with the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which included a provision that enables light- and medium-duty trailer manufacturers to deliver their trailers to dealers in combinations of two, subject to existing size and weight limits and additional restrictions. This fact sheet provides an overview of the new law and its impact on NATM members and can be found on page 44.


The second document is a comprehensive guide to Early Warning Reporting (EWR) and Recall requirements. Both trailer manufacturers and component manufacturers have reporting requirements, regardless of the number of trailers or units manufactured. The guide debuted at the NATM Convention and includes an executive summary, along with more thorough sections on EWR and Recall requirements. It also includes examples, sample reports, templates, and relevant statutes and regulations.


Accessing "A Guide to NHTSA's Early Warning Reporting and Recall Requirements" and Tandem Towing Fact Sheet Documents Online:


1. Visit NATM.com and click on "MEMBER LOGIN" Type in your Username and Password and click on the "LOGIN" button.

3. Once you are on the "Members Only" secure side, you can locate the Tandem Towing Fact Sheet or the Guide to NHTSA Early Warning Reporting and Safety Recall document under the "New NATM Documents" line. Click on the link to download.
