GardenFest 2016 Takes Place on April 9

ardenFest 2016, sponsored by the San Clemente Garden Club (SCGC) in cooperation with the City of San Clemente’s Beaches Parks and Recreation Department, will be held from 8am-2pm on Saturday, April 9, at the San Clemente Community Center at Avenida


Del Mar and Seville. This annual event offers huge bargains on a wide variety of plants. GardenFest 2016 will feature


more than 5000 plants with an emphasis on succulents and edibles propagated and donated by garden club members and sponsors. GardenFest 2016 will also feature the popular flea market in the community center auditorium


offering a wide range of items for garden, home and hobbies. The Garden Club invites the com- munity to enter its annual “Funky Garden Container Contest” and “Floral Design Contest.” At- tendees judge winners on site on Saturday, April 9. Proceeds from GardenFest 2016 benefit SCGC’s scholarship program for area horticulture stu-


dents; the club’s Junior Gardeners Programs at Concordia, Las Palmas, Marblehead Elementary and Shorecliffs Middle schools; and beautification efforts at the Pier Garden, Marine Monument, Library Memorial Garden, City Hall Rose Garden, Casa Romantica and the Roses at the 15th Hole at the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course. he San Clemente Garden Club (SCGC) will offer $1000 scholarships to graduating San Clemente High School (SCHS) seniors attending an accredited two or four year college or university in the fall of 2016. The club also offers $1000 scholarships to


college students with one or more completed semester or quarter, enrolled in an accredited two or four year college. Students must pursue studies, certifications, or degrees related to Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscape Design, Ecology, Biology (excluding health sciences), Wildlife or Marine Science, and other Environmental based studies to be eligible. The deadline for applications for both high school and college scholarships is Tuesday,


March 1, 2016. Applications can be downloaded under the scholarships tab at sanclemente- gardenclub.com. The 2016 scholarship recipients will be notified by May 2016 and honored at the


SCGC’s luncheon to install officers, present awards and scholarships on June 8.
