he San Clemente Chamber of Commerce has embraced the 2016 year with an extensive strategic plan to further inform market and promote our members, thus creating business growth and prosperity. To follow is a highlight of your Chamber’s 2016 program of work


campaign which includes: Creating a Strong Local Economy; Promoting the Community; Pro- viding Networking Opportunities & Business Contacts; Representing the Interests of Businesses with Government and Political Action, such as electing candidates to office.


Chamber CreaTing a STrong LoCaL eConomy The San Clemente Chamber works daily to create a strong local economy. The Chamber is


committed to keeping members informed in respect to proposed legislation and issues, which affect the economic and business climate of San Clemente and the surrounding area. The Chamber’s Legislative Council has embarked on an aggressive program of work, which


includes these major legislative issues: CHAMBER LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC POLICY AGENDA • Class Action Lawsuits • Workforce Skills & Education • Transportation • Legal Reform

ADDITIONAL ECONOMIC HIGHLIGHTS: • Providing Leadership Programs including SCORE counseling - Free & confidential advice to small business owners through face to face counseling and workshops. • Chamber Business Referrals - The Chamber has a full staff that receives over 40,000 inquiries a year from people needing business referrals. The Chamber only refers members. • The Chamber currently maintains the Visitor & Tourism Center - Thousands of visitors enter our office each year. The Chamber refers them to your businesses. ness and remarkable individuals. Accolades are bestowed to “Citizen of the Year,” “Business of the Year” “Educator of the Year” and “Outstanding Lifetime Achievement” winners at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting of Members, Installation of Officers and Award Ceremony. The Chamber produces a Community & Business Resource Guide. The CBRG features


pertinent city information. In addition, it includes a Chamber Membership Directory, that is a trusted resource for businesses and residents who want to do business with other community-spir- ited companies. We distribute more than 8,000 Community & Business Resource Guides annually that help guide purchasing decisions throughout the year. All Chamber members are listed, com- plimentary, both by alphabetical order and business category. The CBRG will be utilized by indi- viduals and companies for Economic Development, Relocation and Travel and Tourism. Your Chamber produces the Community Wall Calendar, which lists all Chamber events,


committees and councils as well as all non-profit events in the area. Committed to continually striving to market San Clemente and member businesses, the Cham-


ber hosts the Annual San Clemente Mixologist Competition, a contest among area restaurant bartenders to see who has the best tasting original drink. The Chamber hosts a state of the art Website www.scchamber.com, which includes the mem-


ber “Business Directory” section. Members may have their business name, address, and phone number displayed in the Business Directory search results and also have their business name hy- perlinked to their Member Information Page. The Web Description/Text Context area includes the following fields: Description, Hours of Operation, Driving Directions, and eight keywords. The Chamber’s Web Site received over 3,500,000 hits last year. MEMBER ADVANTAGE PROGRAM Chamber members offer discounts to current members of the San Clemente Chamber of Com-


merce. Participating members are listed, along with the discount, in the Member Advance brochure, in the Chamber Newsletter quarterly and on the Chamber website at www.scchamber.com. Military Welcome Home Events - The San Clemente Chamber of Commerce and the City

ing, Golf Tournament, Sunset Networking Mixer, Seminars, Social Media and more. • The Chamber will host three Business Expositions this year. This will be an opportunity


for San Clemente Businesses to network and market their business to a broad audience with max- imum visibility. • We will also be hosting numerous Business Building Classes - The first colloquium will in-


clude a Business Coach, focusing on a variety of subjects that will help our businesses be more ef- ficient. • Business Networking Luncheons - This Networking Council gives members a chance to


market & showcase their business to numerous other Chamber members. The Networking Council meets at a different restaurant each month, thus giving Chamber member restaurants the oppor- tunity to also showcase their establishments. • Establishing an Alliance of Business & Education, which strives to support the educational


interests of San Clemente Students and promote a partnership between students and business. • Social Media - San Clemente Chamber of Commerce continues to stay on the cutting edge


of technology so we are always able to market our member business to the full extent. Our member businesses do not have to know the ins and outs of Social Networking, as the Chamber does the work for them. Your Chamber has the most effective method of combining all of the powerful Internet re-


sources available today; Search Engines, Social Networks, Local Directories, Email Marketing, Blog Posts and Press Releases are just a few examples of how the chamber information is exponentially propagated globally at the click of a button increasing awareness of member’s businesses or achieving other marketing objectives, such as product sales. Orientations. Ambassadors serve as the communication link between all councils and encourage participation in all events. Ambassadors develop membership retention. Business Networking Luncheon - The Networking Council grants members the opportunity


to market & showcase their business to numerous other Chamber members. The Networking Council meets at a different restaurant each month, thus providing Chamber member restaurants the opportunity to also showcase their establishments. The Chamber Represents the Interests of Business with Government - In addition to the Leg-


islative program of work discussed above, the Chamber works with Legislators to shape bills, edu- cates members in respect to Bad Business Bills and champions business friendly legislation. The Chamber is also an advocate for individual members. COUNCIL & COALITION INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES: Legislative Council - On behalf of the business community, examines current legislative issues


and makes recommendations to the Chamber Board of Directors regarding a position and course of action. Encourages involvement and understanding of the actions of government. Hosts meet- ings featuring legislative representatives speaking on business issues. Legislative Coalition - The Coalition hosts a Legislative Luncheon several times a year. Topics


for the luncheon are based on the individual Chamber’s Legislative Council’s issues and/or concerns. Legislators are then invited to the Luncheon and asked to speak on those current business matters. The Coalition is comprised of the following Chambers: Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. Business Council of San Clemente Chamber of Commerce - Provides recommendations in


respect to local issues of concern including, Legislation, Guidelines & Regulations, which may affect the prosperity of the business community of San Clemente. Annual State of the City Luncheon - The San Clemente Chamber of Commerce presents the


annual State of the City on the second Friday in April at 11:30am. Join us for lunch as the Mayor addresses significant City matters, such as the economy, development and infrastructure issues. This is an excellent opportunity to network with local business owners, residents and members of the San Clemente City Council. Political Action, such as electing candidates to office. The San Clemente Chamber of Commerce is concerned about making sure that we elect to


office those candidates who understand issues from a business point of view. COMMITTEE INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITY: Political Action Committee - Businesses for a Better San Clemente (BBSCPAC) is the spon-


sored PAC of the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce. The PAC acts pursuant to authority granted by the Chamber and shall make endorsement and contribution recommendations to sup- port State and local candidates on behalf of the Chamber. PAC funds are a voluntary membership contribution.
