SADIE ROBERTSON AND ROMA BOOTS

by Madison Albee

Roma Boots is a company focused on “giving poverty the boot.” For every pair of rain boots sold, one pair is donated to children who need them. Roma Boots, along with volunteers, have “dropped” boots in 20 countries on four continents in the last four years.

Roma Boots partnered with Sa- die Robertson to create the “Live Original” line. When Sadie came to Dallas, TX to promote the new line, we had the opportunity to interview her.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN OF YOUR LINE OF ROMA BOOTS?

HOW DID YOU DEVELOP YOUR PARTNERSHIP WITH SAMUEL BISTRIAN (FOUNDER OF ROMA BOOTS)?

Samuel had been wanting to make this grow bigger than it is. He felt like I would have the heart for that because he’s seen me on Instagram, and I do a lot of mission work, and that really is where my heart is. So he got in contact with us, and he flew down to West Monroe, and we had a meeting. He asked if I would interested, and I was like, “Yeah! That’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard.” Because I just love that kind of stuff. And then he was like, “You can go on a boot drop with us if you do it,” and I was like, “Done. Sold! I’m doing it.” And we just partnered together and it’s been great.

It’s really funny. I had just gotten a new pair of tennis shoes right before, and I’m obsessed with them. They’re the floral Nikes. I told Sam- uel we need to make some floral rain boots. He told me to send him pictures of florals that I like. So I was Pinteresting a lot, and I would send him florals that I found, and this hap- pened! (pointing to the rain boots she was wearing)

HOW DOES THE BOOT DROP WORK? WHO ARE YOU SENDING THEM TO?

It’s rainy places that actually need rain boots, like Guatemala and Nica- ragua. They’re for the kids that really cannot afford to have rain boots, and that hinders them from going to school because they have to walk to school, and it messes up their feet. Samuel saw that need and decided to do something about it. He also goes into Romania. That’s where he’s from. Our family is going to Guate- mala for Christmas this year to do a rain boot drop. So, I’m really excited. We just bring all the rain boots and give them to the kids.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TEENS ON ACHIEVING THEIR DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS?

I would just say, don’t underestimate yourself. Because I think a lot of us have cool dreams, but we never think that that’s actually possible. So we don’t do anything to make it happen. But, if you actually believe in yourself, then you could actually achieve a lot more than you could if you didn’t. Like, if I said I wanted to go climb Mt. Everest, but I never flew there, how could I do it? You have to put yourself in the position in life to be able to achieve the goals that you have for yourself.

Sadie’s “Live Original” line of Roma Boots can be purchased at select Nordstrom stores or www.romaboots.com.
