Can you give us an e to this availability?

Chartersphere took advantage of aircraft availability to move this automotive cargo from Europe to the U.S. onboard an An-124 flight.

Some 500 customers have already signed up to receive Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ aircraft availability updates.

Simply register once at availability@volga-dnepr.co.uk to receive the update, which contains availability of Volga-Dnepr Group’s IL-76TD-90VD, Boeing 747 and 737 freighters as well as a direct link to Ruslan International for the An-124 aircraft.

Clair Gunn, Commercial Executive at Volga-Dnepr, said: “We generally look at the programme of flights 3-4 weeks in advance and this will highlight the empty flight legs we will be operating. Subject to being able to obtain the necessary traffic rights and as long as there is no impact on the connecting flight, it gives us the opportunity to notify customers of opportunities for the most economical solutions, particularly if they have some flexibility over the dates cargo needs to be transported.”

One of the companies to have most recently benefitted is Chartersphere. Cargo Supermarket asked Nacho

Carretero, the company’s Cargo Sales Manager, to tell us more.

olga-Dnepr’s t availability listing?

At Chartersphere we work hard to ensure that our expertise and market intelligence are second to none. In such a tough climate, that’s the only way to stay on top of the competition. So a resource like Volga-Dnepr’s aircraft availability listing, which gives us up-to-the-minute market information, basically makes our job a little bit easier!

As a broker I always strive to come up with more than one solution to my clients’ requests and likewise clients are always happy to be given different options. The most obvious benefit to our clients would be the significant cost saving that a one-way charter offers over a round trip. For example, often a client comes to us with an urgent shipment, but give that customer the option to save a significant amount of money by flying at a later date and they might just decide that the cargo is now slightly less urgent! Ultimately we want to offer value to our clients and

Recently we received an urgent request from one of our clients in the automotive sector. They needed to move a 40 tonne shipment of general cargo from Europe to the USA as soon as possible. Chartering an An-124 might not immediately seem like the obvious solution, but that is exactly what Chartersphere arranged using a one-way availability with Volga-Dnepr. Having already scoured the market, we knew that no other aircraft were immediately available for this route but we pride ourselves on finding creative solutions and we came up with the idea of using the An-124. Thanks to having the latest availability list from Volga-Dnepr, we were able to offer our client this unique solution. Obtaining traffic rights for such a route might have presented another major obstacle. However, we had already ascertained that no U.S. aircraft were available and so were confident that permission would be granted, as no carriers could object.

Working together with Volga Dnepr’s ever- professional Ops team we were able to swiftly obtain the necessary permits and the flight operated within 48 hours of the request, to the delight of client, broker and operator alike!

‘I would say that on average, using a one-way charter can save the client up to 40% of the cost of a round trip, sometimes more.’
