Letter From The President
The 2015 RSNC World Finals finished up on June 13th in Fort Worth, Texas, with another excellent attendance record. There were an outstanding 4,608 teams competing for over $400,000 in cash and prizes. Before the finals Texas had been hit with a full month of heavy rains, but fortunately the week of the finals it cleared up and was beautiful weather. There were a few days that approached he 90’s but most of the week was very mild and that always goes a long way toward lots of smiling faces and positive attitudes.
We exercised some new concepts last year to help improve the flow of the competition and we were pleased with the results. The biggest change was running one class at a time regardless of the size. With seven arenas set up, it didn’t matter whether we had 150 teams or 500, we could complete the first go of either in just a few hours. With 300 teams or less we stayed in the John Justin with three sorting pens, from 300 to 400 teams we added sorting pens 4 and 5 in the Multi-Purpose Arena. If we had over 400 teams in a class we added sorting pens 6 and 7. The larger the class the more sorting pens we used and this worked extremely well. Contestants were amazed that we were running over 300 teams an hour, with all seven sorting pens in use.
Last year was also the 1st year for the instant replay. The feed back from both contestants and judges was very positive so we set it up for all seven sorting pens again this year. There were numerous reviews throughout the week that went both ways. However the best part of the program is that it settles any questions that may arise. We want all contestants going home feeling like they received the best calls possible, regardless of whether it fell in their favor or not. We will continue to implement the instant replay at major RSNC events, including the World Finals.
There was one casualty and we want to pass along our best to Larry Knowlton who somehow was kicked by a cow while on his horse. Unfortunately it broke his leg and he had to undergo surgery. Larry, our thoughts and prayers are with you as we wish you a very speedy recovery! It is pretty amazing that of all the dangerous adventures you participate in it would be Ranch Sorting that put you in the hospital! We should all count our blessings because on any given day anything is possible.
As always, the lower number classes showed the biggest percent of increase over previous years. While all but two classes were larger, it was the Beginner Ranch Hand and the Beginner Youth classes that had the highest percent of increase. With over 1,600 brand new members in the last year alone that stands to reason. Welcome new members and we hope that you enjoyed your first trip to the World Finals.
The Futurity and Maturity was also a huge success this year with an increase from 70 horses last year to 124 horses this year. That also made a huge difference in the purse, which was $64,000 paid out! Once that snowball starts rolling the sky is the limit and we are very excited about those possibilities. I would like to thank the stallion owners and sales companies who subscribed to this program and also to Jared and Sara Lesh, Green Valley Cow Horses, Tommy Roberson, Shelley Fitzgerald and Logan and Kason Wolfe who all self-nominated to help promote their respective programs. I would also like to thank Don Goddard for working so hard to initiate and grow this program. It takes lots of time on the phone in the month leading up to the Finals to get so many great stallions into the program and it would not happen without Don dedicating many long hours to make it happen.
The huge week of competition went exceptionally well thanks again to an excellent RSNC staff who worked very hard to be sure everyone was treated as our special guests. My hat is off to the entire staff for an excellent job. They all realize that this is your vacation and they dedicate their efforts to be sure you enjoy it by having fun.

Speaking of fun! How about those “Minute To Win It” contests! Each day, between goes, there were free entry fees given to the winners of some fun Minute To Win It adventurers. It will be even more fun to see some of those photos!
RSNC WORLD FINALS
Fort Worth, Texas, played host to the RSNC World Finals!
We are continuously looking at new ways to dedicate our efforts toward the novice and amateur rider so they remain assured they are where the RSNC emphasis will remain. We will continue to dedicate our efforts to new and non-professional riders because we realize you are the ones that have built this organization and you are the ones who will continue to make it grow. Open riders are now seeing the value of this organization as a great place to grow their businesses by offering horses, training and lessons to the clientele that RSNC is providing in an ever growing membership. This works for everyone including the sport itself.

6 THE RANCH SORTER JULY-AUGUST 2015
The boys and I recently visited Australia to host two clinics—the first of many RSNC events down under. You will find some of our photos in this issue and there will be lots more to come from our friends at RSNC Australia—as well as RSNC Brazil and RSNC Canada—in future issues of The Ranch Sorter.
It’s a new start to a new year and I look forward to seeing all of you at a RSNC event soon! Sincerely,
Dave Wolfe President RSNC
