Ranch Sorting National Championships A Huge Success In Australia.
Ranch Sorting National Championships (RSNC) in conjunction with
the Australian Bushman’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) launched the first ever Ranch Sorting Clinic and Jackpot Competition in Dubbo New South Wales, Australia on the 27th and 28th of June. Dave Wolfe kicked off the weekend with a pep talk and some
background information into the formation of the Ranch Sorting National Championships. Thirty keen new Ranch Sorters took part in the Clinic held on Saturday with some participants being as young as 11. Logan and Kason taught them the fundamentals of positioning your horse in relation to the cow, and the finesse required to make a smooth and clean run. The group was split into two and participants were coached under the
very talented and experienced Wolfe brothers who made it look all too easy. The stakes were high as the brothers competitive natures spread through their teams, ending the day in a Kason V. Logan team challenge to determine who the best coach was for the day. A particularly tough herd of cattle meant there wasn’t much to separate the two teams as Dave ordered a tiebreaker. Logan and Kason picked their partners and went into battle for their teams. After a great start and what looked like a winning run, it all came crashing down for team Kason as they ended up with a no time. Saturday night called for a good old-fashioned Australian BBQ and
entertainment by one of our own competitors Rob Breeze. Rob sang a few Australian Country songs and I think our American friends are hooked on Slim Dusty. Logan and Kason took to the dance floor to show Tammy and Jodie how to swing dance, the Aussie girls may need a bit more practice. A cold and foggy winter morning saw the start of our Jackpot competition,
along with a whole new world of entries and computer systems. A total of 31 teams competed in the competition and there was plenty of cheering from the sidelines for new friends and teams made over the weekend. Our teams were struck with some tough cattle but 10 managed to make the cut for the final. Lonnie Henderson and David Egan took out the number one title closely followed by Dawn Barwick and Lois Skuthorpe. The weekend was overall a huge success and everyone who attended
had a great time. Our very own “grannies on horseback,” are well into organizing their first Ranch Sorting competitions. The professionalism and expertise displayed by Dave, Logan and Kason was noticed and commended by all involved. We look forward to another great weekend ahead in Tamworth.

Brazilian Crioulos Horse Association (ABCCC) is a huge association, one of the biggest horse associations in Brazil. Crioulos horses are commonly used to work in the field. They are very rustic and strong. Crioulos horses are ideal for handling cattle, so they are perfect for Ranch Sorting. The Crioulos Association and RSNC BRAZIL are working together and have established a partnership. Their first show is coming up on August 8, 2015. The show will be for all breeds, but the Crioulos Association is giving a lot of support, including a report about RSNC Brazil, and their next shows and expositions in the last issue of the Crioulos Horses magazine.
