INDUSTRY NEWS The basic concept was
launched by Woodtiger AB a few years ago, but the market was not ready for the machine at that time. Since then, it has been further developed, including the introduction of the unique hybrid drive. As the market for smaller, professional forest machines is now expanding, development of the Woodtiger was resumed and at this year’s SkogsElmia the result was presented as the world’s fi rst forwarder with hybrid drive.

A
different kind of hybrid forwarder, the Woodtiger, has two types of
30 km an hour.
The machine has a normal hydrostatic drive, which works better when using six-wheel drive in the forest. The disadvantage is that such machines travel slowly when not off-road and have a risk

of overheating. Woodtiger has therefore also installed mechanical transmission, which only drives the front wheels. This also reduces fuel consumption significantly and means the forwarder can therefore be used for other tasks.
Firewood processor
Designed and manufactured in Finland, the new Japa 235 features a chainsaw and a
hydraulic cylinder for fast and effi cient cutting and splitting. The log that is being processed
moves automatically from cutting to splitting and from there via a conveyor to a trailer or storage facility.
The machine is fast and easy to operate, with only one safety cover guarding the cutting and splitting actions. This also allows users fast and simple access to the machine for wood processing and maintenance, but the Japa 235 only functions when the guard is in place, making it a very safe machine to use. This fi rewood processor is light and easy to move on its own wheels and can also be equipped with a combustion engine, making a tractor or high voltage electricity supply unnecessary.

The machine also features more innovations. The load space has been calculated to carry pulpwood in lengths up to 5 metres with a total capacity of about 2.5 metres solid volume under bark.
The manufacturer has chosen a smaller crane, but although loading takes a little longer, this is compensated for by the reduced weight of the crane (400 kilos compared with the normal 750-800 kilos), which enables more load to be carried, thus saving the need for one journey in six.

Chain tensioner
The patented AC 10 automatic chain tensioner was recently introduced by Maaselän Kone Oy, replacing manual tensioning of the Hakki Pilke saw unit. The AC10 is available as optional equipment for the ‘Hakki Pilke Easy 38’ fi rewood processor and will be available for other professional models during 2016.
With AC 10, the tension of the chain is constant, which prevents the chain from loosening and breakage while cutting logs of variable hardness and size. Optimal chain tension improves the cutting speed and increases chain and guide bar life. Replacing the chain is fast and easy with the use of a single tool. More information from
