• Blake Morgan has strengthened its established team of licensing law specialists with the appointment of Caroline Matthews. She joins Blake Morgan at the firm‘s offices at New Kings Court, Southampton, and brings almost two decades of experience to the licensing team, adding to the firm‘s comprehensive offering to the retail and leisure industries. Matthews, who advises clients on all aspects of licensing as it affects their business, joins Blake Morgan as a senior associate after five years at Trethowans, where her clients included a major football club, restaurants, pubs, hotels and national chains as well as smaller operators.


• NewVoiceMedia, a leading global provider of omni-channel cloud customer contact technology, has announced that Frank van Veenendaal will join as a director to the board. Van Veenendaal served as executive vice chairman of Salesforce for three years where he held a number of executive leadership positions and helped drive the company‘s considerable growth. Prior to Salesforce, he served at several leading high-tech companies, including Actuate Corporation, Interleaf, Integrated Solutions, Pyramid and Harris Corporation. Van Veenendaal said: “With its world-class technology, customers and partners, as well as a multi-billion dollar market opportunity, NewVoiceMedia is poised for considerable growth. I look forward to working with the management team and playing an active role in helping shape the future of the company.“


• Justin Dubiel has been appointed as Elliotts‘ kitchens and bathrooms manager. It comes as the firm unveils ambitious plans to double the turnover from this part of its business over the next few years and become first choice for kitchens and bathrooms in the south. While well-known historically for its builders merchant branches across the county, Elliotts has a strong footing in sales of kitchens and bathrooms to the public and trade over the past 40 years.


• Southampton solicitor Edward McMullen (above) has been named ‘Solicitor of the Year‘ after building a great reputation for himself in Blake Morgan‘s construction team. McMullen took the title in the Hampshire Legal Awards 2015, run by Hampshire Law Society, and picked up his award at a dinner at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. In a successful night for Blake Morgan, he was joined at the ceremony by his colleague Carina McFadden, who was shortlisted in the ‘Junior Solicitor of the Year‘ category. McMullen joined the firm‘s construction team in April 2013 and quickly established himself as a leader in this specialist sector. He advises on legal issues surrounding construction projects and developments, with clients including leading developers and not-for-profit organisations.

• Jan Ward, CEO of Southampton-based Corrotherm International, has been made a commander of the British Empire by HRH Prince Charles in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Ward was invested as a CBE for her services to business and her prominent role within the business community at both a national and international level. She founded Corrotherm 1992 to supply high-grade metals to the oil, gas and desalination markets, and since then the company has gone from strength to strength, expanding significantly to establish a strong global presence. She said: “It was thrilling to meet Prince Charles and I was surprised at how much he knew about me and Corrotherm International.


• Law firm Trethowans has announced a number of promotions across its offices in Hampshire and Wiltshire. These come ahead of the firm‘s merger with Dorset-based Dickinson Manser and are part of long-term expansion plans. Will Sclater (above) has been appointed senior associate in the commercial litigation department. He has worked in the team for the past seven years and has been instrumental in developing the property litigation offering. New associates include Karen Lush, who is team leader for licensing and handles a number of large restaurant chains. She joined Trethowans almost 30 years ago and has worked in licensing for the past 15 years. Frances Gillett has been appointed an associate for her outstanding work as a solicitor in the personal injury team. Private client solicitor Jessica Johnston has also been promoted to associate. She qualified in 2011 and recently passed her Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners diploma.


• Leading motor finance provider Close Brothers Motor Finance has boosted its offering in the Portsmouth and Isle of Wight area with the appointment of account manager Amy Bridges. Bridges initially joined the company as a branch administrator, and it wasn‘t long before senior management recognised her potential and promoted her to the sales team. In her new role as account manager, she is responsible for maintaining and building relationships with dealers in the Portsmouth and Isle of Wight areas, and helping them grow their business.
