Brayborne named finalist for ‘Golden Service‘
A team from Brayborne Facilities Services is in the running for an accolade in the cleaning industry‘s biggest awards
These are the Kimberley-Clark Professional Golden Service Awards, founded in 1991. The 2015 awards will attract over 500 attendees at the dinner, on October 23 at the London Hilton Hotel, when the winners will be announced.
Brayborne has been named a finalist in the ‘Large Education Establishment‘ category for its work with the Woodlands Community College, a co-educational facility in Southampton for 11-16 year olds specialising in science and engineering.
The ethos of going the ‘extra mile‘ is being rewarded for this small, dedicated team of cleaners from Brayborne, which provides daily cleaning in all areas of the school
including classrooms, art, design and technology rooms as well as science labs and IT suites.
Brayborne is one of the leading contract cleaning companies in the South East, holding many substantial contracts in the specialist education sector across the region. The company directly employs over 850 staff who deliver daily site-specific services to large corporate offices, shopping centres as well as educational facilities.
Leading the Brayborne team at Woodlands is Shaneem Moss who is the manager responsible for all three of the Interserve schools in Southampton. She works closely with all three sites ensuring they receive a high-quality service at all times.
Pitmans announces new managing partner
Leading law firm Pitmans LLP has announced that Christopher Avery, celebrating 25 years as managing partner, is to step down from the role.
With the firm – described as a ‘regional heavyweight‘ by The Legal 500 – now a 36-partner business with major offices in Southampton, Reading and London, Avery is handing over the reins at Pitmans to John Hutchinson.
Hutchinson, former head of the firm‘s corporate department, becomes managing partner at a time of rapid growth for the firm. Expansion into Southampton and London has created new regional and sector opportunities for Pitmans.
In 2014 Pitmans acquired Lamport Bassitt, a leading Hampshire practice, to become one of the most significant regional firms in the south, with a footprint stretching from London to the Isle of Wight.

Hutchinson praised Christopher Avery‘s long tenure as managing partner: “Christopher took over as managing partner in 1990 and has presided over the firm‘s substantial growth since then. The firm has won numerous awards and now stands in 2015 as a tremendous success story, not just for the region, but in terms of the legal sector generally.“
Avery remains a partner at the firm and continues his relationships with both his new and longstanding clients of the firm.
Hutchinson said: “My aim is to build on the firm‘s great progress over the past 25 years and continue to offer the best services to our private, commercial and professional clients.“
Pitmans currently employs 220 staff across its offices in Southampton, Reading and London.
Pam Warner is the dedicated site supervisor at Woodlands and works closely with the college and Interserve facilities management staff on a daily basis as well as managing the cleaning team.
The college also benefits from having the daytime housekeeper, Della Munday, on site to ensure that the school remains clean and tidy throughout the day.
“The cleaning team takes pride in the work they do,“ said Jenny Edwards, business manager at Woodlands. “They are always willing to go over and above what is expected of them and they make the college look fantastic. As a school we have regular events such as parent‘s evenings and open days and we often host important visitors. Ofsted inspections give a snapshot of all aspects of the school including the appearance and
cleanliness. Brayborne has helped us to create an excellent first impression and when I walk around Woodlands I can take pride in what I see. We always get comments from outsiders on how lovely the school looks and that is all down to the hard work of the cleaners. They are always willing to put in an extra effort for special occasions.
“We are very pleased Brayborne has become a finalists for these prestigious awards. The cleaning team follow the example set by Shaneem and Pam who have an excellent work ethic and exceptional standards. They aren‘t afraid to give 110% to make sure the school is a great environment for pupils and teaching staff alike.“

C4L begins local fibre digging to boost connectivity
With fast connectivity being the most highly-rated priority for local businesses and visitors in the digital town, C4L has begun installing a high-capacity fibre network across Bournemouth to serve its customers with business- grade connectivity.
With the town recently named as “the fastest-growing digital economy in the UK“, and home to over 400 digital businesses, many of these corporations seek higher Internet speeds to make business- critical tasks such as email, file sharing, design, video rendering and website orders much more efficient.
C4L has begun meeting these requirements by providing superfast fibre to the centre of Bournemouth from its Westbourne Data centre. Customers on the fibre network will be able to enjoy Internet speeds of up to 10Gbs, a significant improvement on the current 3mbps average.
Matt Hawkins, chairman and founder of C4L, said: “Bournemouth is the fastest- growing digital economy in the UK, competes globally and is a fantastic place to live, and so deserves to have the best chance of continued success with business-grade connectivity.
“Installing superfast fibre in Bournemouth has always been a dream of mine as I can see how it will accelerate the town even further. With government Connection Vouchers of up to £3,000 being eligible in the area now too, there is nothing to stop businesses improving the platform they trade from.“
