Atmospheric Zone have being supplying lighting to the pool industry for over 12 years and was one of the first companies to introduce SSL lighting to pools. Knowledge is all important in the lighting industry as with all industries and where many companies are now adding LED lamps to their range, the knowledge of light needs to be understood in more depth than simply ‘plonking lights here and there’. Clients spending thousands


of pounds on their tile finish will require it to look and be illuminated to the correct colour. Their Astel and Savi white lamps have a CRI>80, anything less will cause a dramatic loss of colour causing things to look a ‘shade of grey’.

CASE STUDY Swimming Pool Triumph


In creating the De Vrolijkheid wet leisure complex in Zwolle, Netherlands, its design team set out to achieve the most energy- efficient swimming complex imaginable. While LEDs have long been recognised as a highly efficient lighting solution, the aggressive pool hall environment has meant that its benefits have been restricted to underwater. Until now. Looking for sustainable lighting,


De Vrolijkheid’s developers turned to EVA Optic, the world’s first and only manufacturer capable of delivering total LED solutions for swimming facilities. Compared with halogen equivalents,


EVA Optic’s underwater lighting uses up to


87.5% less energy, while its ambient systems save around 85%. However, none of this would be possible without EVA’s precision engineering that protects against chlorine, moisture and heat. Its downlights, for example, are the only ones on the market to feature a chlorine-resistant coating, while its LEDLine strip-lights utilise a highly resistant anodised aluminium to maximise durability.


Heat – particularly near the roof of a pool facility – can be extremely damaging to ambient lighting. EVA has resolved that problem by preventing any negative impact on the lighting units and the efficiency of LEDs. Self-regulating heat control (ATS) helps to prevent premature failure and, as a result, units last much longer than lighting alternatives: up to 60,000 hours.

developers and supplier working to achieve a shared vision – which included dimmable lighting throughout. LEDline strip-lights, LEDW wall and ceiling lights and LED SL spotlights were specified for general lighting. For added interest, spotlights were also used for highlighting.


The complex features five pools, including two competition pools (six- lane and eight-lane), a training pool, recreational pool, and paddling pool – all of which required LED lighting.
