WI NEWS Kingswear WI is holding an Easter Bazaar on Saturday April


in the upper Hall 10.30am-12.30pm in aid of Shelterbox. The £1.50 entry will include coffee or tea and a hot cross bun. There will be a cake stall, Easter crafts, tombola and stalls with bric-a-brac and pre-loved clothes. Please note, bachelors of this parish –THERE WILL BE CAKE! There is a new WI walking group, meeting monthly. The

first walk we did was from Dartington to Totnes and back, with coffee in Totnes and a chance to browse the shops at the Cider Press. Amazingly, it was a sunny day, and the Dart, though full, hadn’t flooded the path. We have the next three walks planned at nearby locations.


KINGSWEAR 2-4 TEA


CLUB The Tea Club members and volunteers cel- ebrated their first birthday with an excellent lunch at the Ship Inn on monday 3rd


 February.


A group of potential volunteers met back in the autumn of 2012 to discuss offering some sort of regular social event for residents of the parish of Kingswear, in particular to include the opportunity of an outing for those who may have become socially isolated, perhaps after illness or bereavement. Out of this came the idea of a ‘tea club’ to be held on the first monday of every month at the lower village hall. Cakes and tea are offered free of charge and there is also free transport by taxi for anyone who wants it. This initiative was supported by the Parish Council with a start- up grant from the Carlow Bequest for which we are very grateful. We also have a donation box at each event. The club held its first event in February 2013 and an average of well over 30 people, men and women, have met for tea, cake, chatter and companionship every month since. No formal speakers are organised but access to information regarding local support services is offered and experiences are shared. We meet even if the first monday is a bank holiday as there is nothing worse than being on your own on such a day when others are out with families.


The club was well established by the summer and we were lucky to receive a donation from the Kingswear Regatta Funds. Some of this money was used to have our
