convincing, but not too loud, bass drum and snare sound. I treated myself, spent a few days practicing, and the band gained a percussion section!

The band will be playing at the next all-in Morning Worship on Sunday 6th January. Do come along to enjoy worship in a more informal style or better still, please ring Clive Southgate on 523185 if you play an instrument and would be happy to join in!

Tony Grogan’s Latest Trek In Aid Of MacMillan Every day 821 people in the UK are told they have cancer...

Each year I take on a sponsored challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. On previous occasions I have trekked in the Canadian Rockies, Costa Rica, the Inca Trail in Peru, Mount Kilimanjaro, the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, the Alps in Chamonix France, the desert in Jordan and I’ve also completed the Great North and Great South run.

Between 2nd and 11th March 2013 I shall be putting on my hiking boots again and

joining around 40 people in this new challenge in the mountains and forests of Cuba. The event, and months of preparation, will be tough but I am doing this in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. (Registered charity in England and Wales 261017)

This is what I know about the trek: “Cuba, described as the pearl of the Caribbean is a

gem of an Island. Our challenge takes us from the North coast and the cultural and historical city of Havana right through the heart of the island to the South coast and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Trinidad. We have over 90km ahead of us, across the Escambray Mountains of central Cuba, home to beautiful lush vegetation, waterfalls, mango orchards and coffee plantations. The tough days of climbing will be rewarded with stunning views down to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Trinidad and our first glimpse of the enticing white sands and blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.”

Each and every day 821 people in the UK are told they have cancer. Two million

people in the UK today have a cancer diagnosis, and more than one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer during their life. As well as taking action today to support people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan is shaping the future of cancer care.

I have already paid towards my fare and I have to raise a minimum of £3500 to take

part in the event, of which at least 69% will directly benefit Macmillan Cancer Support. I hope to raise much more than this and ask if you will consider sponsoring me in my challenge, which I am aware is a very minor one compared with the challenge that cancer patients face each day.

If you are able to support me please make the

cheque payable to Macmillan Cancer Support and send it to me at my home address or visit my just giving web site at www.justgiving.com/tonygrogan-CubaTrek

Thank you, Tony Grogan 11
