NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL

The Business School is one of the largest, most diverse schools in Newcastle University, with 2800 students from over 80 countries. Part of the UK’s elite ‘Russell Group’, we are a research- intensive institution, delivering programmes of the highest quality and one of only 140 business schools, worldwide, to receive accreditation from the European agency EFMD under its ‘EQUIS’ scheme. We offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes, many of which are accredited by professional bodies.

Relevant Programmes

All our programmes are designed with the global business community in mind and students are encouraged to think entrepreneurially. Our research expertise are focused on influencing current business policy and practice - as well as core aspects of management, we specialise in knowledge, innovation, technology, and enterprise through our dedicated KITE research centre, which is currently developing its research in the field of entrepreneurship.

Challenging Education

Our new £50m building hosts networking spaces where students and staff collaborate. Our professional accreditations ensure we take a critical approach to the relevance of our teaching, and we are committed to recruiting the best minds in business to our academic faculty.

Vibrant City Centre Location

Newcastle has twice been voted the best university-city in the UK. It is renowned for its architectural beauty, cultural scene, and lively nightlife, as well as its friendliness. Surrounded by some of the UK’s most unspoilt countryside and coastline, Newcastle also offers excellent value for money, making it an affordable destination for students of all backgrounds. ‘Newcastle remains a destination for the savvy student, seeking a high-quality top 20 university experience in a buzzing city, where the student pound goes appreciably further than in other parts of Britain’ The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2012

Careers

The University’s careers service is award-winning, and the Business School focuses on student employability through international internships, placements, and the support of a dedicated careers advisor. The Business School’s graduate employment rates are well above the national average: in 2010, 96 per cent of employment-seeking graduates secured jobs within six months. 97 per cent of students who undertake 12-month placements achieve a 1st or 2:1 degree.

Dual Award Programmes

Truly global business management today requires the ability to challenge norms, adopt new perspectives, and balance the values and needs of a wide and diverse audience.

The Business School has developed a series of programmes that take students into other regions of the world, to study, exchange ideas, and apply cutting- edge theory to practice. At postgraduate level we offer the Dual Award in Advanced International Business Management and the Dual Award in Operations Management, both run jointly with the University of Groningen in The Netherlands.

Student Profile

‘My decision to study at Newcastle University Business School was influenced by several factors. Firstly, the school offers a wide range of master programmes in the area of finance, having a more specific focus and requiring a shorter period of study as compared to programmes in my home country Germany.

The Master of Science in Strategic Planning and Investment appeared to be an excellent theoretical supplement to my internship in the strategic planning department of a German car producer, especially with regard to valuable analytical skills. Secondly, the quality of teaching was important to me, which I deem very high at Newcastle University ranging amongst the top twenty universities in the UK. Thirdly, I consider the University’s connections to renowned multinational companies very important in an increasingly globalising world; in fact, I’ve made first contact to my future employer there. Additionally, I was attracted by the beautiful city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the international student body. All in all, my expectations were exceeded in every respect.’

Julius Nierwetberg, MSc Strategic Planning and Investment
