SPN OCT 2012 UVSystems THE POWER OF UV LAMPS IS KEY

UV lamps for swimming pools can be low or medium pressure, the difference is all down to whether only disinfection is required, or disinfection plus removal of chlorine and chloramines.

Low-pressure lamps have an output of typically about 300 watts. The number of lamps needed will be based on the throughput of water. Each has a life span of about 15 months and converts around 30% of the input energy to short wavelength UV. Low-pressure lamps are good at inactivating microorganisms. Medium-pressure lamps are used one at a time and have outputs up to 10 kilowatts. They have a much longer life span, often several years Their UV output covers a broader spectral band from shortwave UV to visible than low-pressure lamps, and is better suited to decompose chloramines. Medium pressure lamps are powerful at removing chloramines as well as being effective biocides.

supplied with manual or optional fully automatic cleaning system and, variable UV lamp power settings that can also be controlled by a user friendly control panel.

Often high volume traffic in commercial pools can overpower the typical disinfection system, leading to higher chlorine dosing of pool water, increasing the risk of chloramines and chloro- organics and, subsequent dangers. ESCO International’s UV systems have been vigorously tested and show they are reliable in successfully reducing the level of combined chlorine (chloramines) to below 0.2 ppm. The research showed that installing a UV system leads to lower free chlorine levels and the need to hyper- chlorinate the pool is less frequent, making pool operation more cost effective and safer.

TRIDENT MAKES STRIDES IN UV Certikin’s TridentTM Ultraviolet raises the bar with the introduction of the Series 1 ultraviolet sanitation system.

With features not found in any other commercial UV sanitation system, and convertibility from one lamp to four lamps, the Series 1 system takes swimming pool, spa, water feature, fountain and pond sanitation to a new level.

Using the latest UV low pressure high output UV technology, 13,000 hour lamp life makes the Series 1 systems some of the UV industries easiest to operate, easiest to maintain, and most reliable UV systems available. Suitable for indoor and outdoor operation, this small footprint UV system becomes an obvious choice for the user who demands the best.

With its 100% corrosion-resistant and UV inhibited dual reactor design, the Series 1 system incorporates features not found in other UV systems. Removable inlet/outlet unions, the ability to increase the system lamp wattage in the field, a corrosion-resistant poly- meric exterior, stainless steel inner reactor reflector for increased intensity, pressure gauge, automatic ON/Off power, and plug in electrical components make the Series 1 a true state-of-the-art UV sanitation system.

The Trident is available in four capacities from 44 GPM to 168 GPM (10 m3/hr to 38.2 m3/hr).

TRIOGEN LAUNCHES TWO NEW SYSTEMS

UV and Ozone water treatment specialist Triogen successfully launched two new systems last year with their Uvaray CF system for commercial pools and their low pressure TR2 UV range for residential pools, spas and water features. The Uvaray Cross Flow system is an addition to their Uvaray range, providing optimal ease of installation and covers flow rates from 20 to 830 m3/h. The CE approved system utilises a 316L stainless steel reactor, fitted with a DVGW approved UV sensor, reactor temperature sensor and an automatic ‘smart drive’ wiper system. The reactor also features quick release UV lamp connections making lamp replacement simple. Triogen’s new TR2 low pressure UV system has been designed for disinfection of small pools, spas, ponds and water features. The four TR2 models within the range covers flow rates up to 40 m3/h and are manufactured in UV inhibited

polymeric materials making them suitable for pools utilising both salt water chlorinators or standard chemical dosing. The system offers reduced chemical consumption, improved algae control and water clarity along with superior bather comfort. The TR-2 range is simple to install and operate and provides low capital and running costs along with an 18 month UV lamp life. spn
