Gastronomy & Garters reprints a bill of fare from the time of henry viii detailing the Saturday supper and Sunday dinners for a Grand Feast, also a bill of fare for the Feast of St George in 1667 in the reign of charles ii, and finally the details of a Grand Feast in 1671. The cost of the last of these totalled a staggering £2,394 17 8d.

Richard Pennington notes the importance of charles ii’s exile in France for the improvement of English gastronomy shown through the comparisons of the menus.
