NHK’s next generation TV -SUPER Hi-VISION - is to be used for Public Viewings of the 2012 London Olympics in collaboration with the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and the BBC (UK).


These SUPER Hi-VISION Public Viewings will take place in the UK, Japan and the USA, from 28th July to 12th August, 2012.


SUPER Hi-VISION, is known for its dynamic images and sound, with 16 times the resolution of current HDTV.


SUPER Hi-VISION offers visually outstanding features: 4320 scanning lines in comparison with HD’s 1080 or 16 times standard HD resolution. It also features audio excellence, by way of 22.2 multichannel sound, compared with the 5.1ch surround offered with standard HD. NHK began R&D into SUPER Hi-VISION in 1995.
