Addington Council Danger junction

MEMBERS noted correspon- dence from the borough council who agreed that further action should be taken due to the num- ber of accidents at the Seven Mile Lane junction. The clerk hadwritten to KCC, advising it that the parish coun- cil felt the installation of traffic lights could cause delays and frustration at peak times. The clerk added that land around the junction was for sale, and could allow other safety meas- ures such as a roundabout to be considered. No reply had been received from KCC and it was agreed that copies of all corre- spondence should be forwarded to County Cllr Sarah Hohler. Members expressed concern

at the number of cars that seemed to be aquaplaning on theA20, and PCSO Kim Hockey agreed to monitor the situation. Members considered quotes

for additional posts at the top of the village green, and accepted a quote of £500 from All Sea- sons Projects for 11 new posts and the replacement or straight- ening of five existing posts. Two quotes were considered for re- pair work to the trackway.Due to the cost and legal implica- tions, it was resolved not to carry out the repair work, but the clerk was to assess the type and ownership of the signage on the green. The council considered the following planning applica- tions, with no objections: Use of land next to Park View, London Road, Addington, as a builders’ yard; application for an out- buildingwith part domestic and part office use at Oast Farm, Mill House Lane, Addington. An application for equestrian ménages at Oast Farm was con- sidered, and concerns were raised about access and the dis- posal of manure. It was also decided that the

land should be for private and not business use. The applications for addi-

tional lighting and drainage at Big Motoring World were still incomplete. KCC had confirmed that in its opinion the new sign was not distracting to motorists and the lighting on it did not ex- ceed recommended standards. However, it raised concerns about the levels of halogen lighting at the site, which was considered distracting to mo- torists on the A20. KCC was to investigate whether this lighting can be removed or the bright- ness reduced. The council had been told

that steel bollards outside the Jungle Café had to be removed as they were too close to the highway. Members remained concerned about the possibility of vehicles parking on the verge

and obscuring visibility. Arrowguard had been to the village green but there was still evidence of moles. Marchants was hoping to re-

move the horse chestnut tree on the western boundary of the recreation ground, as it had an advanced fungal infection, and to pollard the black poplar at the rear of the recreation ground.

Car park surface COMMUNITY warden David Leipnik reported that a number of Belgrave Street residents had told him that, while they wel- comed the proposed car park, they still had concerns about the surface of the rear access to their properties. The clerk confirmed this would be looked at as part of the car park project. Since the removal of the recy-

cling facilities at the former Walnut Tree pub, bottles were being dumped near the bus shelter. The borough council had been informed and was ar- ranging clearance and regular checks. The building was about to be demolished. There may be some parking issues in the vicinity but the site manager was very approachable and had asked to be advised of any concerns or problems. There were problems with parking on the footways again. The police were informed, but attended after the football matches had finished and the vehicles had gone. The warden had asked if the council could review the condi- tion of the steps on the footpath between Greenfield Close and Mackenders Lane and arrange for the responsible body to re- paint the edges. It was reported the public meeting on the Aylesford Park- ing Review had been successful with about 70 people attending. Commercial vehicles from 73 Rochester Road, Aylesford, were now reportedly parking in Rochester Road or Powell Close. The borough council was mon- itoring the situation, having put an enforcement notice in place regarding the use of a residen- tial property as commercial premises. It was reported that there

might be issues in future with applications for removal or trimming of trees which shade newly installed solar panels.

Assembly matters IT was agreed that the commu- nity art project to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee would be the subject of the an- nual parish assembly. A flyer wouldbedrawnupfor distribution throughout P30
