Roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour
GRAB your 1960s gear and boogie along to the Farmers Market at West Malling on April 22 which will feature in a Beatles revival weekend.
David Lambert, the writer of a film documentary on the Magical Mystery Tour, will be bringing a replica bus, loaded with fans of the Fab Four, from Newquay for the weekend.
They will be staying at the Castle Lake Hotel, Leybourne, where there will be a 1960s disco on Saturday, April 21.
Next day, the bus will be on display at the Farmers Market, rekindling memories of when local people acted as extras when sequences of the cult film were shot in the area.
There will be a dance area with music from the Beatles era – admission free - and visitors will be encouraged to dig out their mods’ and rockers’ gear with a small
prize for the best dressed couple and the best dancing pair.
The Magical Mystery Tour was filmed during 1967 and a major location was the former West Malling airfield, now the site of the Kings Hill community. A scene was also filmed in West Malling’s newsagent’s shop and Ringo Starr bought jeans in Baldocks clothes shop.
If you have memories or photographs of the event, please come to the bus and chat to David as he is writing a book about the event.
The Farmers Market will be in the High Street from 9.30am to 1.30pm. More than 30 local produce stalls are regularly available and local pubs, cafes, the Abbey Arcade and some local shops open for the event.
