been able to supplement the budget and not have to raise dues since 2005. Te Committee meets at least four times a year, mostly by conference call, to make sure that leads are being followed and that current sponsors are receiving the value that their contributions warrant.

• Legislative – Te Legislative Committee advocates for the preservation of the civil justice system and the protection of the rights of Maryland citizens. Although this effort is year-round, the Committee meets in late summer to discuss the hot issues affecting members.

demands time and effort. Starting at the beginning of the Maryland Legislative session in January, members of this Committee spend time reading and monitoring bills, testifying or finding clients to testify at House or Senate hearings, and talking to legislative representatives regarding the issues that affect the citizens of Maryland.

• Awards – Tis Committee works with the Board of Governors to recognize individuals and/or organizations, both attorney and non-attorney, that have contributed to or helped advance MAJ’s mission. Typically, it meets via conference call two or three times in the spring, prior to the President’s Dinner.

• Diversity – Te Diversity Committee works with the entire Association, year round, to encourage diversity within MAJ in order to reflect the diverse backgrounds of Maryland’s legal community.

• Education and Programs – Tis Committee meets in the spring to set the calendar of education events for the upcoming year (that begins with September events). Volunteers work with the MAJ sections to determine the programs and identify moderators and speakers. • Membership – Tis Committee works year-round to recruit new members, retain current members and actively promote the value of MAJ to the membership and legal community at large. Tey work closely with all the committees and sections to enhance MAJ's membership value. Typically, there are two phone-a-thons (one in the spring, and one in the fall) that any member can join, and on occasion, MAJ members are invited to other Maryland bar association events where we have access to highlight to bar members our value and service.

• Mentor/Mentee – All members have an opportunity to become a mentor or be matched with a mentee. Te volunteers of this Committee work diligently to make sure that a good match is made. Tey also talk with the mentors and mentees to make sure that the relationships are working.

• Public Awareness and Outreach – Tis Committee serves as the liaison between MAJ and the MAJ Foundation. Te Foundation provides resources to the community, and an opportunity for our members to interact and give back to the citizens of Maryland at numerous programs. Typically, the programs last for only a day and are a great opportunity to get involved.
