EMS PRO EDITOR’S LETTER | TABLE OF CONTENTS
Happy Holidays The staff of EMS PRO Magazine would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday. We have again reached that time of year when we reflect upon the past, look forward to a New Year, and remain thankful for our blessings.
We are thankful for the sacrifices our first responders make during this time of year. While most are enjoying family and friends, “making memories,” and taking a little time away from the job, our first responders remain on call, ready to answer the bell that we all know will ring way too often. The families of our first responders also sacrifice precious time away from their loved ones, we are thankful to you as well.
A look back
2011 was a very challenging year for many in the EMS business. Budget cuts, consoli- dations, layoffs and other cost containment measures truly took its toll on many providers and services. Publically funded services, as well as privately operated, all experienced a year of climbing demand, and declining revenue. Not a good sign by any measure. Another troubling trend has been the closing of volunteer driven programs and ser-
vices. While some of this is economically driven, some is simply the lack of willing vol- unteers. I well remember a time when if you wished to volunteer for the local squad you very well may have had to wait on a list for a few years. Not so much the case anymore. Makes me wonder …
Top Products
Each December we present our annual Top Products issue of EMS PRO. 2011 was a great year for new and innovative products. Selecting the products and services to be included was not an easy task. Clearly there are a great many more outstanding products than we have presented here. But these are the ones we feel stood out just a little bit fur- ther and “made the grade.”
Happy New Year We would also like to wish each of you a very Happy New
Year. We are hopeful that 2012 will be a safe and prosperous year for all.
