Demers Ambulances, one of North Amer- ica’s largest and oldest ambulance manu- facturers and the Canadian leader, is proud to announce the launch of an exclusive and in- novative technology: the ECOSMART System. The all-new Demers ECOSMART Anti- Idling System is exclusive to ambulances equipped with the Demers Electrical Man- agement System (DEMS) and offers to the EMS provider automatic fuel saving with over 40% reduction in fuel consumption during idle time, as well as economies of $1,500 to $2,000 in fuel costs per year. The new sys- tem also has a noteworthy impact on the en- vironment, with reductions of 4.5 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Other advantages to the new ECOSMART system include reduced engine hours and therefore increased time between service checks, longer life for the engine, chassis and ambulance, and better resale value or ab-

sorption of asset over a longer period of time. “The new ECOSMART System is a ready- to-use system on Demers ambulances pro- viding EMS with substantial fuel savings helping them to better control their opera- tional costs,” says Alain Brunelle, President & General Manager of Demers Ambulances. “Thousands of dollars of savings make a huge difference in today’s economy, and at Demers, our goal is to help fleet managers to meet their objectives,” he added. The Demers Electrical Management/Mul- tiplex System lets you set criteria for when the vehicle goes into anti-idling ECOSMART mode. In ECOSMART mode the system de- termines if the vehicle’s engine needs to be running to provide both the required electrical power and maintain set temperature para- meters in the patient compartment. Also, the engine is turned off but all sys- tems that were operational remain so, in-

cluding emergency lights, heating, cooling, etc. The vehicle stays off until the tempera- ture in the patient compartment goes outside preset limits or there is a voltage drop in any battery bank. It then restarts and runs for a minimum of 10 minutes for voltage drop and until ECO conditions are re-established. Fur- thermore, the anti-idling system disengages when the vehicle is restarted with a key or shifted out of Park. For security reasons, the anti-idling system is automatically disabled when the hood is opened.

ECOSMART System is an option available now on new units, and also as a retrofit kit for all our models built within the last seven years, that are equipped with our DEMS mul- tiplex system.
