application. MFFH’s fi rst fund-raising eff orts will be to support the Unwanted Horse Project’s initiatives. Read more about the MFFH and donate to help fund start-up costs for fi lings with the State and Federal Governments at:
www.mdhorsecouncil.org T e MFFH will be the sponsored charity at the MHC Annual Horseman of the Year banquet in January. Funds raised at this event will be used to facilitate fund-raising for area hay banks over the winter, a gelding clinic and gelding voucher program in the spring, and Maryland Responsible Horse Ownership Week in early May. T e Maryland Fund for Horses and Unwanted Horse Project will soon have its own website! Baltimore GiveCamp, a nonprofi t project to assist local charities with website and social media de- velopment chose the MFFH/UHP as one of about 20 sponsored charities in the area. A “coding marathon” took place over the week- end of October 21-23 with approximately 100 website designers, graphic designers and programmers, and the new website should be ready for its debut any day. Many thanks to Baltimore GiveCamp, Cen- tral Maryland Association of .Net Programmers, and Unwanted Horse Project Data/Information Committed leader Leslie Diamond for their tireless eff orts to see this project to completion. T e Unwanted Horse Project is looking for a lead person and volun- teers to work on Maryland Horse Ownership Week in May 2012. T is event will take place in conjunction with Preakness Week and will be the Unwanted Horse Project’s fi rst state-wide educational program about horse ownership and horse welfare. If you are interested in organizing this exciting and important event, contact Vicki Carson at vcarson@car-
sonassociates.com. Finally, the Unwanted Horse Project has WebEx collaboration capa-
bility! Watch for a schedule of 2012 quarterly Unwanted Horse Project meetings on the MFFH website, the MHC calendar and in next month’s Equiery. A physical meeting venue will be announced, and WebEx video conferencing will be available for those who can’t attend in person.

BBQ hosted this year by Larking Hill Farm. It’s great to see new faces at each of these events, while at the same time seeing long-time members take new leadership initiatives. So with everything going on, it seemed like the perfect time to step up our eff orts to keep everyone up to date. If you haven’t done it already, bookmark the revamped
www.md-
horsecouncil.org. We gave it a fresh look, and have made things easier to fi nd. All the photos in the banner are from our members. I couldn’t think of a better place to show off all the great things that our members do around the state! If you’re on Facebook, search “Maryland Horse Council” and like our
Facebook Fan Page. It’s a great place for people to share their news and stay up to date with what we’re doing. Finally, we’ve started three separate blogs for you to follow. Legislative updates can be found at
http://mhc-legislative.blogspot.com/ courtesy of Amy Samman, Ron MacNab, and Jane Seigler. T e Unwanted Horse Project’s Vicki Carson blogs about the various issues facing horses today at
http://mhcuhp.wordpress.com/. And fi nally, Damascus Equine As- sociates vet and Executive Committee member Pete Radue, VMD has started a Horse Health blog for Maryland horse owners, which can be found here:
