you post on your Fan page, the post will come from the business entity; whereas if you post on your group, the post will come from you, individually. Importantly, Fan pages allow the administrator to view statistics on about visitors (including the age and demographics of active fans, and graphs showing subscribing/ unsubscribing fans). Tis provides a means for you to track your marketing and your fan base. Like Twitter, you may use other internet services, including Tweetdeck, to automatically post links to your blogs as status updates on your Fan page. Your goal should be to expand your network as far as

possible—to have as many quality fans or friends as possible. Like blogs, your Facebook content may vary depending on your goals. If you want potential clients to think of you, having former clients, friends, and random people befriending you will give you an opportunity to periodically remind them of your presence and your practice so that, when they need a lawyer, they might think of you first. If you want referrals, then you should likewise remind the lawyers who follow your business site of the types of cases you do, and the intricacies of those cases so they will think of you first when referring cases out.

A Cautionary Tale Like listserves, social networking posts should be restricted

to content that you would be comfortable seeing in the newspaper. Te posts you make and the sentiments you put out can be broadcast and re-broadcast by your followers, and will become part of the internet, potentially forever.

I use Google Alerts to request daily searches and notification of my name, my firm’s name, and key terms related to my blogs and tweets (my blog name, drugrecalllawyer.com, my twitter usernames, @MillerAndZois and @johnjohncord). Of course, if someone is citing to your work on-line, be sure to thank them, and return the favor.
