Her owners bought her in 1989, restored her, and fi tted her out for charter, with a charming wood-panelled interior. Zillaine, a 1961-built C&N yacht whose owner Peter Riches approached us at this year’s London Boat Show, has a secret weapon. “Many sailors have families who aren’t as keen on sailing,” Peter told us. That is why Zillaine sits at anchor in front of her own air-conditioned beachside apartment with pool. “You could look at the weather and decide on the day. If the lads went out for a sail, those staying home could swim over in the evening for G&Ts!” The key is fl exibility. Race at a regatta (Barcelona Puig and Regata Illes Baleares in August), sail to Ibiza, day sail, don’t sail at all, or do an RYA course on a classic in the sun. As the yacht sleeps four and the apartment another 4-6, this is real value. Base is Cartagena Murcia on the Costa Calida and Zillaine is a skippered yacht.
