well equipped for the winter season “We mean business when the snow flies”
Weeks before snow and freezing temperatures hit the Okanagan, the certified equipment operators of Global Roadway Maintenance (GRM) were well prepared for the winter season. Over one hundred snow and ice control units, including single axle trucks with hydraulic driven sanders and under body plows, 4X4 pick up truck plows, AntiIce spray rigs, skid steers with hydraulic angle plows and 96” & 102” snow buckets, side walk sweepers, and ATV sidewalk plows were serviced and installed and put to work keeping roads, side- walks, parking lots, and bridge decks safe the moment the snow hit the ground. Also, over 70 hand shovellers are ready to give a helping hand when the snow flies.
Largest unit is a tandem axle truck equipped with a tank deck, a rear mounted spray boom for AntiIce application, a 3135 gallon tank for AntiIce supply, an underbody plow, and 20 & 30 yard roll off bins for snow hauling. Last winter, this unit was deployed on the William R Bennett bridge where GRM worked collectively with Protrans WRB Bridge in order to maintain a safe and snow free bridge deck throughout the winter. GRM supplied all of the liquid AntiIce product and took care of all the flushing of the bridge deck in the spring to ensure all of the residue was removed. “We were very pleased with GRM’s performance. They went above and beyond to assist the Protrans team with our winter maintenance activities”, said Kevin Hamakawa, Operations Manager SNC Lavalin Services Inc, WRB Bridge Operations.
“In the past three years, we’ve had to deal with more extreme winter conditions than we have been accustomed to in the Okanagan. We anticipate an increasing number of snowfall events and cooler winter temperatures”, says GRM president Garth Dietrick. “Crews will work diligently to remove snow from parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks. Pro-Active AntiIce and reactive sanding programs are in place throughout the winter months. Snow will not only be pushed, but also hauled and dumped at dedicated locations. We mean business when the snow flies!”
