Trivia & Games Did you know?...

• Runway numbers are designated to the runway based on the compass direction

• The number is not just a name for the runway but a major tool for aiding the pilot in aligning the aircraft with the runway on landing or take-off

• The runway number is a shortened version of the magnetic degree that will be appearing on the com- pass. Therefore a runway with a magnetic heading of 160 will be titled Runway 16. A single digit runway, such as 06, is really 060

• Some runways are named 14R or 14L. This means the airport has 2 runways with the same orientation but the R states that runway 14R is on the right-hand side and 14L is on the left-hand side

• Taxiways are named in the order of sequence they are built using the phonetic alphabet. YLW has Alpha, Bravo, Delta, Charlie and Echo taxiways

• Aprons are designated by numbers (Apron 1, 2, 3) and increase by the evolution of the airport’s growth – At YLW we have 4 Aprons
