Ulster Bank With over 200 business

banking staff and six regional business centres working in conjunction with 90 branches, Ulster Bank is Northern Ireland’s largest business bank. Its key focus in terms of business banking is the small and medium-sized enterprise sector, to which it has been lending through initiatives including the Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme and the European Investment Bank discounted loan scheme. In 2010, it committed to lending a £300million fund to SMEs. It is anticipated that around the same level of funding will be available in 2011. This is in addition to lending to larger companies and the bank’s mortgage lending fund. Cash management has also been a key focus for the bank in recent

times, with services made available to businesses to help manage cashflow, including invoice finance and Bankline, an online cash management service. Ulster Bank has taken significant steps to support start-up companies,

including the launch of a start-up business package and the extension of its popular Small Business Can initiative (www.smallbusinesscan.com) to include a start-up knowledge centre, providing information and advice on a range on things including marketing, strategy, and business planning. Small Business Can is the island of Ireland’s fastest growing business website and was pioneered in conjunction with the bank to provide SMEs with a place to network, share ideas and experiences, and to access knowledge. The bank’s various initiatives for SMEs are underpinned by its business

commitments, which are an extension of Ulster Bank’s SME customer charter. They commit to providing sound business customers with access to credit and working capital, clarity regarding what they can expect from Ulster Bank as well as support for and understanding of their business needs. In addition, the bank has launched a number of significant service

commitments which will also benefit business customers, including a commitment not to close any branches and to extend opening hours. More information is available from www.ulsterbank.co.uk or www.smallbusinesscan.com
