The final feature of this year puts the focus on the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF). Members include the companies in membership of SPATA and BISHTA, along with the STA

The BSPF is the voice of the industry.

When it comes to communicating then one of its key roles is to ensure the views of the trade associations of BISHTA and SPATA can be heard more effectively with national and international bodies.

For instance, the BSPF attends a number of important meetings, such as the Swimming Forum, which brings together a wide range of organisations that have an interest in promoting swimming participation. Those organisations include: The Amateur Swimming Association, the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management, the Royal Life Saving Society, Sport England, the English Schools Swimming Association and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, amongst others. The BSPF also accompanies

THE BSPF’S ROLE IS A ‘VOICE OF THE INDUSTRY’

SPATA and/or BISHTA with government departments at home and working with European Union groups to discuss changes that may impact our industry. The BSPF has also assisted SPATA and BISHTA with proposed changes to legislation or regulations that affect the industry. There is growing dialogue by the BSPF with agencies that realise the importance of consulting with the pool and spa industry. The BSPF has a Board and this comprises representatives from the SPATA National Council, the BISHTA Committee and as the BSPF is the sole shareholder of PIP and SPATEX, there is also representation from these companies on the BSPF Board. The STA (Swimming Teachers’ Association) is also represented. The Board oversee the direction of the BSPF and the Federation adds value to the industry through its liaison with key agencies and organisations. The BSPF’s main internal responsibilities involve the ownership of the offices in Andover and the management of the majority of staff that support SPATA, BISHTA, PIP and SPATEX. The staff based in Andover (pictured opposite) are from left to right Karen Goddard (providing accounting support on a self employed basis), Alison Jones, Jan Hardy, Emily Mills and Sandy Crockford. Michele Bridle works remotely and is in daily contact to organise the smooth running of the annual SPATEX show.

The BSPF office helps to run the President’s Weekend and organises the annual conference / AGM’s and this issue of SPN has a feature on both of these important industry events.

Part of the office management role of the BSPF includes renting out the top floor of the building and tenants since the start of BSPF’s ownership of the building have been TWA, a creative design and marketing company and there is a feature on them below.

we need to borrow a cup of sugar...) For more details on TWA, go to www.twa-uk.com
