Victoria Leisure Centre proposals receive final go-ahead by central government By Tom Walker
Plans to replace the Victoria Leisure Centre in Sneinton, Nottingham, with a new £9m facility have been given final approval by the government. The plans were given the
green light by Nottingham City Council (NCC) in June, but as the building is located within a conservation area and is owned by the council, plans required the approval of communities secretary Eric Pickles. Designs for the complex have
been drawn up by London- based architects Levitate and form part of a wider £32m NCC-led scheme to upgrade leisure provision across the city. Plans for the new Victoria Leisure Centre incorporate a
leisure media sTudIo The dated centre will be replaced with a new, modern facility
six-lane, 25m swimming pool with separate children's pool and fun splash play area and fitness and health suites. The centre is also designed to
complement efforts to revitalise the Sneinton Square area, which aims to improve links
between the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. The decision will bring to an
end the efforts of the Save Victoria Baths pressure group, which was seeking to have the council's decision to redevelop the baths overturned.

Maidstone Leisure centre reopens after revamp Designed in the Life Fitness
Maidstone Leisure Centre in Kent has reopened to the public following a £4m renovation. The project, undertaken by
ISG, included the creation of a two-storey, 500sq m (5,382sq ft) fitness suite; two new exercise studios; a new toddler play pool with interactive water features and new swimming pool changing facilities. Life Fitness has installed more than 70 pieces of

New equipment for Western Isles facilities

currently being created at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais as part of the council's wider investment in local facilities. The new machines will be installed from 16 August.
