the lens
November: Fiona MacAlpine, second from left, won backstroke gold at the Strathclyde Regional Championship in
Bishopbriggs. Fiona is pictured with coach Helen MacLean and some of her Oban Otters teammates.
February: Inverness exhibitor K W Walker, Leys Castle, dominated the bull section of the Highland Cattle Society
spring show in Oban. The top bull, a five-year-old Red, Prionnsa 4
th
of Leys, went on to fetch 1,450 guineas at the
sale from Mrs J Y Nelson, Achnacloich, a price topped only by the reserve champion, which was owned by Glasgow
District Council and sold for 1,500 guineas. Earlier in the month a top price of 3,000 guineas equalled the record set in
1973 when it was paid for Luing Fearless from Cadzow Bros, Luing, at the 18
